    Heh. No.

I didn't think this was funny because I agreed with him - I haven't gotten to play enough "big games" this year to have an opinion one way or the other, although so far Oblivion impressed me more than TP - but rather for the incredible lack of professionalism.

That said, it's pretty stupid for a bunch of editors to vote on Best Game Of The Year when they haven't even played the big hitters. A ranking like that is pretty ridiculous when it comes down to whichever one got played by the most people at the office.

  6. I don't see anything wrong with what he said. Its their responsibility to actually play the games before they talk about 'em, I mean thats what they're paid to do.

    Twilight Princess > Okami

IGNs' just a bunch of lazy fucks.

That's usually par for the course on anything Matty C does, isn't it? This is no exception.

Well maybe I'm wrong. Maybe his retort was entirely sarcastic and he doesn't honestly believe that there is some bullshit Nintendo conspiracy, and he isn't really attacking his coworkers for having not played some game long enough for his standards. Maybe the "tp > okami; fact" line should have signaled that his reply wasn't serious at all.

    If not, lol.

  8. Honestly, asking IGN editors to do a lot of recrational playing during the holiday rush is a bit much, so I don't fault them for that. But because of that, trying to come to a concensus about a Game of the Years is kind of impossible and meaningless. They should have had individual editors pick their GotY or something.

I think this is what really pissed him off and not the fact that Okami got GotY. I think it's the simple fact that editors were going off about a game that they hadn't played. I mean really it's hard to back up an "uninspired nothing new" argument when you haven't actually played the game.

I thought it was funny in the actual video when one of the editors who bitches about how this is just yet another Zelda entry after so many sequels, and how he plays video games for new experiences and not sequels was minutes before that praising the latest Rainbow 6 game, which had more sequels last gen then just about anything else besides madden and the latest sports franchise games.

I'm glad to see Okami get some recognition, it's a game that deserves it. Anyone saying that it doesn't bring anything new to the table besides an art style is sorely mistaken. I personally would put TP before it, but I can see why some one would give that nod to Okami instead, not a bad choice for GotY at all.

I also don't think there is anything wrong with him calling out his fellow co-workers, maybe not to try and claim an anti-nintendo conspiracy, but really as "professionals" they shouldn't be going around commenting on a game they haven't played. I also think if you're going to be involved in something like a GotY article, then it's pretty much your job to fucking play everything on that list. That's what you get paid to do play video games and share your opinion on them. It's kind of like an editor for Car and Driver commenting on a new car with out ever seeing it in person or driving it. I mean that's what you get paid to do, fucking do it.

I don't want to hear any argument about "they shouldn't have to play any games they don't want to" bs. It's a job you're going to have to do shit you don't like to do. I have to animate shit I don't like all the time, it's just the nature of work, suck it up, fucking deal with it, and do your job.

Also, as a professional, Matt shouldn't accuse other people of having not played a game when he has no idea if they in fact actually did or not.
