After the shock of the cliffhanger wore off, I realized what a nonsensical plot point it was that Miguel could have captured and released the skinner on his own like that. I hope they clarify that, because it's kind of stupid as-is.
He didn't capture and release the skinner. Miguel already had a nice talk with the guy while in the holding cell, and we've got no idea what they said to each other. It better be good to justify them working together like this, but at least it establishes previous contact.
And yeah, that's a hell of a place to end an episode.

I've been loving this season but I've got to admit, the stuff they've done with Miguel since "FANTASTIC!" (which ruled) has been really forced and cheap. All of a sudden Miguel's this brilliant mastermind, yet he needed Dexter to put together a starter kit for him at Walmart? I could see Miguel going off and trying to do his own thing, but the writers are taking it way too far. It'd be far more interesting if Miguel continued his natural progression as a budding serial killer apprenticing under Dexter, with Dexter having to "raise" Miguel the way Harry raised Dexter. It feels like a giant cop-out to have Miguel go Super Mastermind Bad Guy overnight. Now, when Dexter kills Miguel, he'll just be another kill. They could have gone into some really dramatic father-son stuff, with Dexter struggling with the decision to put his "child" down like a rabid dog.
I completely agree, Miguel's "FANTASTIC" was the high point of this season so far, and since then his character just seems wonky. This season is seriously weak-sauce compared to the last two, I honestly think that the show really suffers without Doakes around. I just miss him calling Dexter a fucking weirdo every chance he got. I'm probably done with this show after this season. Just like Weeds, the first two seasons rocked, and the third blows ass.
I really miss Doakes too. I understand that his character couldn't be around forever, but they clearly got rid of him way too soon.
That's taking it to an extreme. This season hasn't been as action-oriented as the last 2. The character and relationship are kind of the main focus, and with the pregnancy thing going on it went a different way. But this season has a lot of cliff hanger and these past 2 or 3 episodes have been up there with the first two seasons.
I find it interesting Miguel manipulated Dexter the way he did. He taught him how to kill and cover his tracks like a pro. I found the back and forth between them interesting. I personally would have loved to see Miguel NOT become the villain (maybe Ellen Wolf, or focus on the skinner) and just give Dexter a true friend he can confide in. Would have been interesting to see Miguel form his own code, and the two coexist on their own terms (and see how much Dexter will look the other way when his code's morals are threatened). Next season they need to reintroduce a Doakes character to offset Dexter.
But to ban the series? This is good TV, regardless. The first couple of seasons were perhaps the greatest two seasons of TV ever. Keep things in perspective.
