  2. They forgot to put jokes in this movie when they wrote it.

  3. The assumption on the movie makers part is that the 80's ARE a joke, and so playing it straight would be funny, however, exagerrating cliches does not a script make.

There have only been two movies I can think of that really try to capture the spirit of the 80's (The Wedding Singer and this) and both fail.

Actually, though I don't think it was set during the period, Napoleon Dynamite did capture it.

Freaks & Geeks (tv) captured it.

Donnie Darko doesn't entirely, though I don't think they were really trying too hard so it wasn't detrimental to the movie.

Though not set in the 80's, Can't Hardly Wait (1998) feels like an 80's movie.

Rockstar could have been sooooo much better, but it took about the same route as Wedding Singer and Totally Awesome in its portrayal of the 80's, but was a drama.

SLC Punk! was pretty good. Or pretty irritating. I can't remember which.

80's kids such as myself have yet to get our Dazed & Confused on screen.

  4. I like Wedding Singer, not sure why though.
