I lost interest as soon as these guys decided they weren't going to be a shoegaze band anymore, but their first record is about as close to perfect as any of the post-Loveless bands managed.

I wasn't introduced to the band until the college radio station started playing Sparks Are Gunna Fly, which I loved. Bought Wishville and it was the only song on the album I liked. I will have to check Ferment out.

Wishville is their shittiest album by far, although I really like Sparks Are Gonna Fly, too. On Ferment and Chrome they played an unusually busy and aggressive style of dream pop; it was clear they'd spent more time learning to play their instruments than a lot of their peers. Ferment in particular is really well-rounded and doesn't have much in the way of filler.

I stumbled across this black metal record a few days back and am smitten with it; a bit surprising given my total apathy towards the genre these days. The musicianship is absurd. Shame the unneeded vocals so often get in the way of the good stuff. Shit like this makes me want to smash my guitars to pieces and just give up.
