Thread: Great Soundtrack, Terrible Movie

  1. Great Soundtrack, Terrible Movie

Pretty self-explanatory title. Every once in a while a movie will come out with a sublime soundtrack in spite of being terrible, for a variety of reasons. Here's a few of my favorites:

Vampyros Lesbos: Sexadelic Dance Party: From the sexy cover shot of Soledad Miranda to the dynamite horn arrangements of composers Mandfred Hubler and Siegfried Schwab, everything about this disc is quality. Too bad I can't say the same for the movie, one of those awful psychedelic, experimental Euro-horror movies that seemed to be popular in the early '70s.

Spawn: The Album: Remember Spawn: the Movie? Martin Sheen and John Leguizamo probably wish you didn't. But the soundtrack is a bona fide treasure, a brilliant hybrid of metal and electronica featuring Marilyn Manson, Henry Rollins, the Crystal Method, Metallica, and more. This Amazon.com reviewer sums it up pretty well:

Well, guess what? It happened. From the sexy, screamy sounds of the opening cut "Can't You Trip Like I Do" (courtesy of Filter and The Crystal Method) to the funkified "One Man Army" (Rage Against The Machine's Tom Morello mixing it up with The Prodigy), the disc is as hot as the Spawn's home and twice as heavy as the monster himself.

Lost Highway: I actually kind of liked this movie, even though it makes zero sense (like most of David Lynch's recent work); it just has this overpowering sense of style that's intoxicating to watch. And the soundtrack is one of the reasons why the movie is so memorable. Composed by Angelo Badlamenti and Nick Cave bassist Barry Adamson, it features contributions from Billy Corgan, Marilyn Manson, Rammstein (!!), and David Bowie, among others.

I could go on, but let's hear some of your favorites.

I'm all over these two, and right off the top of my head I'd say The Saint. Had some Sneaker Pimps, orbital, David Bowie, Daft Punk etc.

  4. Yeah, The Saint. Good call.

Great soundtrack, but Val's different accents/disguises were retarded and ruined the movie. "Aahhh'll take yew to muy hooome...in AFF-rickka". LOL.

  5. Lost Highway's soundtrack is awesome. Barry Adamson is all kinds of bad-ass, and this was the first time I heard Rammstein.

Here's a couple: Johnny Mnemonic & Tank Girl.

    Satoshi Kon: 1963-2010

Strange, I loved The Saint. Sure it was a bit over the top, but it was a cool caper/spy flick.

As for the topic, the new Star Wars trilogy had some good music, not as catchy as the first but still good. And of course, the movies werent that good.
