Yeah, the Japanese Ring has a very very Japanese pacing too it, which can be tough for the boom boom blow shit up attention span of most people in the US.

  2. Frailty was great, don't understand the praise for Devils Rejects though. Didn't like that one at all.

exactly. it was the same thing with kairo. the plot is almost identical to pulse, but i was so bored during kairo and my friend actually fell asleep while we were watching it. but we both really enjoyed pulse. the only really big difference between the two movies is the pacing. so even though i like pulse a lot more, i can't say it's better; it's just americanized for my enjoyment.

Here's my other 5 to complete my 10 ten Modern Classics.

Blair Witch Project - Amazing Concept.

American Psycho - This one was off the charts.

Creepshow - Brought the Comics to life perfectly.

Last House on the Left - The realest, most fuckin brutal
shit you have ever seen, if you can stomach it.

Scream - A fantasy come true for Horror fanboys.

Honorable Mention goes to Session 9 a little know Horror
flick, which had a small following at TNL.

    Time for a change

  7. Nice thread. You guys got alot of good ones.

    Here's mine.

1- Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Easily my favorite horror movie ever. So chilling and weird it doesn't even need gore to be effective. I still have dreams about this movie. I can watch it again and again.

2- Maniac. Off the charts gore for its time thanks to Tom Savini. Everyone talks about the shot-gun close up on disco-boy's head, but Joe Spinell makes all of this happen. Tremendous actor who made the character after himself. I'm still convinced that Spinell was actually fucking insane!

3- The Beyond. Easily Fulci's masterpiece. While I like Zombie and City of the Living dead, the Beyond trumps all of the directors best. The crucifixion scene at the beginning is truly a sight to behold. The movie is so very surreal. Definitely look for it if you haven't seen it yet

4- Henry:Portrait of a Serial Killer. Michael Rooker is unbelievable in this flick. Another dominant performance. I seen this movie as a kid on Cinemax Vanguard Cinema back in the day and it freaked me the fuck out, especially the home invasion scene. Now, I go back for Rooker's performance and especially for when he says :Fuck the Bears line. The films effects is its weakest point. Very low budget.

5- Kill Baby, Kill. More of a gothic ghost story than anything. What sets it apart for me is the lighting and atmosphere that Mario Bava creates. It soothes me for some reason. I like to put this movie on and take a nap. It is so dream-like. DEfinitely made under the influence

  8. The Toxic Avenger 1985
The scene where the gang of toughs blow away the blind girl's dog and run over the kid on the bike are priceless. Troma has made so much junk since, but this still stands as their greatest achievement.

    Ghostbusters 2 1989
Not really a horror movie, but this was one of the first movies I ever saw on the big screen and as a little kid it scared the shit out of me (the Scoleri brothers in particular).

    Basket Case 1982
The part where Belial, the lumpy mutant little brother, rapes the main character's girl traumatized me when I was younger. The scene has no music and no camera work, just that pile of flesh slowly grinding away at the bleeding pelvic region of this dead girl. I've seen the movie exactly one time and even well over a decade later, that moment is still fresh in my mind.

  9. Couple that I don't believe have been mentioned:

    Re-Animator - Jeffrey Combs + Brian Yuzna + Lovecraft = goresplatter fun.
Bears little resemblance to the original story, but it's updated pretty well.

From Beyond - Even less resemblance to the original story, but the resonator is one of the creepiest, coolest machines ever. There's supposed to finally be a special edition DVD coming out very soon.

    Satoshi Kon: 1963-2010
