Thread: Duke Nukem Forever

  1. Unless 3D Realms is obligated to do that, I don't know why they would. Then again, what I don't understand is if they were funding it themselves (as opposed to Take 2), why will work not continue? Take 2 doesn't want to pay for it but if they have exclusive publishing rights, they don't want 3DRealms to get funding from somewhere else? Seems sucky.

Nothing to this effect has been indicated. It's unclear if Take Two even has the rights to do that, though they do still maintain publishing rights to any finished product that might come to be.

  3. I'm stunned that 3D Realms managed to stay in business this long without produing anything. Take-Two are a bunch of total chumps to have funded them this long.

When a game is 90% done, isn't it (aside from bug-testing) basically finished? It probably wouldn't take much to wrap it up at this point and push it out the door. At least Take-Two would get something for the asinine inventment they've made in that idiot Broussard.

That said, it's a shame that the game might never be released now. I wanted it to come out, but while I'm sure it would have been good, no game could ever live up to 12 years of hype.

BTW, former 3D Realms employees have dumped some unreleased screenshots, concept art and pictures of models on the net:

"90% to beta" might be a better way to put it, since beta is a "complete" version still awaiting tweaks and bugfixes.

  6. Gotcha. So, there's still work to be done before it's even ready for testing.

Kinda lowers the chances it'll ever be legit released. But maybe someone might leak the unfinished version like they did with Thrill Kill back in the day...

  7. Could this be a Dreamcast Half Life situation where they think the tax write off would benefit them more than potential sales?

  8. So I went to the 3DRealms website and was treated with a link that's a picture...and what does it say?

I'll just avoid the obvious George Broussard joke, here.

I mean, really, no one can act like they hadn't been incredibly lucky to have as many chances as they did, and certainly many promising projects have been canceled for disasters that aren't even close to what went on with DNF, but it's still pretty harsh to yank things out from under them on the final leg of 12 year journey like that.
