Thread: Duke Nukem Forever

  1. Wasn't all that special aside from the boss fight. Reminded me a lot of Turok (not a compliment) without looking as nice.

I could have sworn I saw a blurb in the Joystiq article but can't find it now.

  3. I never got into all the Duke love. It was an okay game and I guess the one liners at the time were cool, but it never stuck with me.

  4. Take 2 doesn't want to fund the game unless they get the IP. T2 already paid 3D Realms enough for the publishing rights.

The level of background interactivity for an FPS was amazing at the time.

  6. Didn't Duke 3D do room-over-room maps first? Can't remember if Doom or something else did that before. The multiplayer was pretty wild too, the pipe bombs were a scream.

  7. Duke 3D did room-over-room first. While Doom was stunning for the time, it was basically faking a 2D layout into looking 3D. You can stand on the edge of a cliff and be munched on by a pinky hundreds of feet below.

  8. Duke 3D did not do room over room. There was sector over sector faking.

The Build engine did incorporate that technology later

I think Descent and System Shock did it first, and maybe Terminator: Future Shock.

Duke did it, but it effectively faked it, if I recall
