Oh hey, I guess I have a demo key. Was all set to download the torrent, guess I should've checked my Steam account earlier.

I thought I saw some people on other sites saying it was working. Oh well, whatever.
Demo is... okay. It's an odd mix of old-school and current-day FPS design that works but isn't all that exciting either. I'll probably play through the full version just because, but I'm not expecting too much besides the license. I also don't like the really short range of the weapons and the enemies didn't really seem to have location damage. Maybe they do, but I didn't notice a difference between headshots and body shots.
Horrible demo. Duke barely says anything the whole time. Fucking antiquated mine-cart pushing. Two weapons in a game like this? Shoot rockets at the ship until it blows up, Duke! Oh but you need like 16 rockets to kill it, so just keep running to the unlimited ammo box that's right beside you, that'll do!
This game runs incredibly jerky for me, even when I'm getting 80-100 fps. It's not a framerate issue it's a problem with the movement. I don't get it.
Bad move. At least Quake 4 and Doom 3 didn't pull this shit on their respective series.
This two weapon limit is an automatic point off- I don't mind it in CoD, Singularity (the weapon lockers there kind of make up for it by letting you retake any previously used weapon), or Crysis. OTOH it doesn't belong in a Duke game. I hope this will GTFO in the final release (or at least in a later patch). What happened to Duke being a walking arsenal?
Let's not forget the pipebombs and laser tripwires. These must return in DNF.

Pipebombs are present in the demo and don't take up a weapon slot.
The demo is pretty awful, and these aren't problems that will be fixed by more levels. Only two guns at once? The health bar regenerates when you do basically nothing? A ridiculously simple boss fight to make the player feel like a badass without actually having to expend effort? I don't know what game I played but it sure as hell bore no resemblance to Duke 3D.

OK, Pipe bombs and trip mines are in. That's nice. I'm glad the Ripper is back, but having to triage out weapons in a Duke game is a little off-putting. Regen health kinda blows too in a DN title. I did downgrade from the Balls of Steel edition to a regular version on my preorder BTW. If I take a hit on this I want it to be only a $50 one, not $90.
I'll still go for the full version at least "for the sake of closure". I just don't have my hopes up for it to be as good as DN3D. It may be just reasonably good, like Doom 3 was. Keep that regen shit out of F.E.A.R. 3 now... w-wait, WHAT the hell? Looks like even F.E.A.R. 3 may be going this route.
