Thread: Are we a bunch of Sony haters?

  1. #271
Sony has zero quality standards when it comes to 3D games, and we can all name 100 examples. There is nothing SNK has ever made that is not better than 80% of the PS2's US lineup. It's a bias, not quality control.

Same goes for everyone. There are thousands of horrifically shitty 2D games that Nintendo and Sega let through on their systems when that's all that people were making. These days developers make primarily 3D games because that's what sells, it's the same situation as before. Once again this is not something that can pinned as something which Sony is spearheading.

I think Nintendo is very much catchable, despite their hot start. They started as well as they possibly could have, and Sony started as poorly as they possible could have, and the gap is still not very big.
what is going to give sony momentum though? I can see a few exclusive games that give me some interest, but really is lair going to sell systems to americans? Sony has mgs4 exclusive,so far. what else is impressive enough to tell a 360 owner who dosent throw his money around, or a gamer who hasnt picked a 360 up already to get a ps3? Sony constantly has to compete with microsoft here, wii can safely stay off to the side with last gen hardware and still fill a niche.

EDIT: ok I forgot devil may cry 4, that one looks really good and may sell some systems, but still, will it be enough to gain momentume and developer loyalty?

Pilot Wings is sitting in the background. I remember when Nintendo talked about the game skipping the GC, in favor of the revolution. It makes sense and would be perfectly suited for the controller.

I don't think that game is what casual fans are looking forward too, but it does have a cult like following.

I think these games had a lot to do with them being originally released in Japan on the Saturn and Sega of America's refusal to release them here (it flat out turned Technosoft down). Vic Ireland's hatred of Bernie Stolar, who left Sony for Sega, might have also contributed to their release. Kind of a final "screw you" to Bernie by Sony and WD.

Nintendogs? Animal Crossing? That's a couple easy million(s)-sellers right there.

Yeah, that's what I was getting at. Sure, the amount of people willing to pay $40 for a new KOF may be small. But is it smaller than the amount of people who were willing to pay that for Virtua Quest, Under the Skin, or Finny the Fish? Doubtful. What does Sony have to gain by denying a game with a fairly dedicated fanbase, other than ill will?

you know, i have yet to ever play a mario party, and would consider it far from the killer app designation, doesn't it pull solid sales numbers for the anemic gamecube? for a party game centric system like the wii, it would probably do numbers. I wouldnt play it if they gave me it freeand its precisely the opposite of the kind of game i was referring to, but for the non gamer demographic, i wouldnt underestimate it as a profitable filler release.

Doesn't matter, we are all speculating at this point.

I just don't see Sony having the kind of success they enjoyed during PS1/2 days. The price point is too high, there will be far and few exclusive games that are worth playing. Online is a step behind Microsoft. Japan is enamored with Nintendo so you know where the j-devs will go (see Dragon Quest on DS), so goes the japanese market.

360 is doing well everywhere but Japan, it should have the best library of games, thus, it is guaranteed to be either 1 or 2. The only reason I think it will come in 2nd is that Nintendo will win Japan and they will do very well the rest of the world because of the cheaper price point, wider appeal (by that I mean non-gamers) and the usual killer 1st party games. So it is a toss up for me who is #1, 2 (Wii/360). So maybe Wii won't outsell 360 + PS2 combined, but I think it will come out on top.
