God, am I getting sick of "OMG teh post-9/11 werld!!!!!11" being used as an excuse for every act of idiocy, paranoia and/or government civil-rights-stealing. It's fast becoming the new Godwin's Law.

I can't really fathom this. It's just hard to wrap my head around this whole fiasco. When did we collectively lose our common sense? When did anything with batteries become a bomb? When did anything we don't understand become dangerous?

It's no one's fault but Boston's for 'spending' a half million (in the same way that the music industry loses trillions a year to pirates) but Boston's. They couldn't take a step back and examine the situation and critically think.

Poor advertising guy. If I were him, I'd rise Johnny Cochran from the grave and sue the everliving shit out of Boston and Turner Broadcasting (for making him the scapegoat).

I got a kick out of all the local news stations and their security "experts" saying that Boston law enforcement handled the "threat" "efficiently" and "orderly."

"Well if this had been a real threat, BPD responded in great fashion, I'd give them an A in threat response..."

The other funny thing was the news story on Fox that followed this....

A firefighter driving down 495 the wrong way because he was drunk...I love this state...

The traffic getting to UMB and home did suck however....THANKS MENINO!

The main issue here is that the Boston PD closed down a bunch of services and transportation and escalated an alert without fucking showing anyone what exactly they found so they could look out for it. If they had done that, this whole thing would have been over in 10 minutes. Instead, they thought it was a better idea to foster paranoia and uncertainty by disclosing no details aside from "suspicious device", which could describe no less than a billion things and thereby gave false reports and rumors all the world in which to grow and thrive.

If they *had* been bombs, people would have been fucked because they wouldn't know what the hell to run away from.

That's the central fuck-up here. You don't tell the public there could be bombs and then say "...Just guess what they look like! Check back in a couple hours to see if you got the right answer!"

seriously, i'm not even surprised that the BBC news services haven't picked up on this "bomb hoax omgY!" story... they're too fucking busy laughing at our asses. Someone needs to clarify to Boston just how fucking retarded they are.

Just read an article about the incident in which the Seattle police department was asked about any calls in response to the ATHF devices planted in their area, their response was pretty much: Um, no.
