For me, TNL doesn't distill or filter the internet, it IS the internet. The only pages i visit on a regular basis are this and ebay.

I think that the current supposed wain in conversation is from a lack of strong personalities. We haven't had any new big personalities join since Biff, who basically is benign now because people are sick of asking him to stop trying to fit in. Diff turned into a girl and dissapeared, and while I still love him, Korian has toned down alot, from possibly the smartest troll to ever have graced the internet to a relatively regular poster with shitty taste in music. Josh now pretty much only posts videos (most of which are genuinely entertaining), but he used to post alot of retarded funny shit. Outside of the wii threads with Spo and co acting like they have downs, taking every bit of flame bait thrown by Joust, the board is just less colorful than it was. We haven't even had a strong gimmick for a long time.

I don't think anything is wrong or TNL is any worse than it has ever been, it just has less ring leaders bringing the circus.

I somehow managed to escape the STFU N00B image. I didn't post like a complete asstard, though, so I always figured it was for the 'lol gamefaqs' crowd that somehow found their way here. I'd like to think that if a new user (no matter how intelligent they are or their first post is) can't deal with that, then how would they deal with like 90% of the arguements or discussions here?

Well, I came over on the GGflower, then left for "addiction control" (very briefly, heh), then had several periods of internet deprivation, and most recently, a 6-month bout with sciatica (PROTIP: it's not fun). I get annoyed with the tone sometimes, but never enough to leave. That said, the whole outworld/f-chan faction war nonsense is a real turnoff. This isn't fucking WoW.

(Speaking of that, wasn't there a huge blow-up a couple years ago about using "gay" or any variant of it as an insult, with the admins coming down on the side of it being a major no-no? So how is "f-chan" okay? And is the irony of the outworld faction taking a game that poorly ripped off Japanese games as their identity intentional?)

I'd also like to add that I have noticed that more people are staying in one forum over another. Since Nick and others decided to remove certain areas for forums and make them there own distinct board. I think the trolling is now only focused there. Where as before if say you went to Soundoff to check out wrestling that same person might check out the rest of the board.

I started visiting TNL about 5 or 6 years ago my first year of highschool. wEEman introduced me to the place, and I haven't looked back since. I like to check TNL out when I have any down time and see what new rumblings are going down. And as K3V said, playing with you guys sure as hell beats playing with random jackasses.
