Thread: Has your opinion on any of the current consoles changed since thier launch?

  1. Yup. Don't really care about PS2 anymore, and GC got nothin I want(till Triforce delivers that is).

Before E3, I didn't give a damn about XBOX. Now, my attention is solely on this one. SC2, DOAX, Ninja Gaiden, PD Orta, Crimson Sea...all I need is Shenmue 3 announced and I'm there.

  2. I don't think I answered the topic too well so:

Xbox: Change from hate to love (own) - I was convinced that it would just be full of western computer games but then things started looking up, I played JSRF and then bought one on Japanese launch, Couldn't be happier with my purchase and some great Japanese games from the likes of Sega, From, Capcom, Namco, KOEI etc

PS2: Constant love/hate relationship (own) - I think E3 was very poor for the PS2 and was mainly sales dick waving on Sony's part. Huge image quality problems and it's a pain having to buy a HDD but then with games like ICO, FFX and Rez, one can't help but love it.

GCN: Never liked it enough to buy, apathy (don't own) - Updates to N64 games don't do it for me and Nintendo's original games don't appeal. Sega haven't shown much for it either.

  3. PS2: Didn't care for it at launch, don't care for it now. It still has the most to proove to me.

Cube: This went the wrong direction. I was drooling over it at launch, and a week later I was like "so that's it?". I know the games are coming, but right now the Cube is way in the back of my mind. A total change from how I felt at launch.

Xbox: I didn't give a damn about it and honestly hoped it wouldn't stick around too long at launch. I got one recently (two weeks before the price drop ) and within a day I was complealy blown away by the machine. The games look, feel, and controll better than I possibly could have immagined. It's got a damn fine controller too (s controller). The Xbox is currently my favorite (living) system, and the games on the horrizon just keep looking better.

  4. PS2 - I still haven't gotten over the bitterness from paying 300 dollars for something that had nothing to offer it's first year of existence. I'm still not a fan. I could do without most of the games on the system, including the ones I own.

Cube - The same, I didn't have any unrealistic expectations for the first year, so what I got was pleasantly surprising. Monkey Ball for example. I still enjoy my Cube.

Xbox - My opinion went from thinking it was complete shit at lunch to thinking it's only mostly shit now. Halo was good for a while, but after that and Jet Set got old, I really regretting spending 300 on the thing. Morrowind gives it a lot of playtime, so if it wasn't for that and Shenmue 2 coming out I'd be really disenchanted. If I had it to do over again, I'd wait for the inevitable drop to 99, then I'd buy it.

  5. PS2: Around the launch, and up to a year in its existence, I didn't want anything to do with it. Then I broke down and got it. Since then, my perception of the system has changed somewhat, and I enjoy it. The future of the PS2 has me worried, though. There seems to be NOTHING coming out in the next year that I really want to purchase.

Xbox: The system specs and future potential impressed me at first, but none of the games really seemed all the interesting to me. But now, a few months after the launch, there are quite a few games that are grabbing my attention. So an Xbox purchase will happen pretty soon. I also like the online plan of this system more than the others.

Gamecube: I REALLY wanted this system before it launched. But after it actually did launch, and a few months passed, I didn't really see much on it that interested me. Although, with the impressive amount of high quality Nintendo titles coming out for it this year and next, I will most likely pick it up...and then probably toss it in the closet after I get my fill of Mario.

  6. my impression for all three systems have changed since launch day.

when the xbox first hit, i didn't care much for it. the launch games didn't impress me at all (except for halo). however, the xbox is now the system that i want the most. games like rallisport, morrowind, hunter: the reckoning, gun valkyrie, and so on have made me itching to find $200 dollars.

the ps2 was the same deal. i wasn't impressed with it when it hit, but when gran turismo 3 came out, i had to have one. that was the only game i had for the ps2 for several months. however, a lot of good games started coming out, like devil may cry, spy hunter, maximo, grand theft auto 3, etc. and it turned it around for me. i'd still like an xbox over it for the moment (but maybe i'm just saying that cuz i don't have an xbox).

as for the gamecube, as was hyped when it was about to hit store shelves. back then, i was thinking "damn, nintendo is going to come out with all guns blazing." however, there really hasn't been anything on the cube at all that would make me want to buy the system, except for resident evil.

if i had to rank the system in terms of how much i'm excited about each one right now, i'd have to say --- xbox, ps2, gamecube.

  7. xbox - like AFX said, "My opinion went from thinking it was complete shit at lunch to thinking it's only mostly shit now."

GameCube - bought it for 5 games (none of which are out yet), so everything else that i buy for it is just icing on the cake. still love the controller.

PS2 - got it pretty much for Namco games. so im happy.

  8. at around the gc/box launches i seriously spent about 2 hours digging up everything i could on their lineups and pros/cons, it was a hard choice then cause they were both even in my mind.

now, having had an XBOX since launch, there isnt one bit of regret in buying it. i wish all the people who still see it as a minor bother till the GC and PS2 roll it over would give it a chance.

i loved the ps2, now i dont care about it. it really is underpowered, or maybe its not and the architecture is just horrific, either way the only ps2 game im looking forward to is kingdom hearts. ill get FF11 too, because square knows i cant fight them.

with the price drop i may get a GC soon, but there are other things to spend my money on now, and im really not excited about anything on it.

however, i hope it and the other two survive and prosper, i know a lot of people think a 3 console market is impossible, but i'd like to see it happen.

  9. PS2- I really hated this system at launch. it was so hyped, and the games were complete shit. i bought one in early 2001 because of shadow of destiny and ring of red. in december my Ps2 was stolen, and not until now have I wanted it again. Its the system with the best software lineup currently, and will probably be a pretty good system in the long run. Its E3 lineup did kinda suck though.

Gamecube- as far as hardware, controller and design goes, its my favorite system ever, and just holding that controller made the $200 worthwhile. The software has been sparse so far, but games like pikmin and monkey ball have made my purchase worthwhile. After E3, I just knew the gamecube would eventually have the best games of the 3 systems. nintendo really shit all over the xbox and PS2. its suprising that even without mario, zelda, metroid, mario kart and pokemon, the gamecube is still selling OK. Once those games hit, the system is gonna take off. right now=C+ in the future=A+

Xbox- From the start and even at this very moment, the xbox doesn't interest me much. i'm not saying its a bad system, im just saying the controller sucks and the games generally aren't for my taste. I'll buy one eventually for Panzer Orta and Project Ego, but not anytime soon. In my mind, and in the industry, the xbox will obviously be #3.

  10. Hrm.. interesting question. I don't think my opinions have changed too much though, plus I have always had a pretty open mind to all of these consoles...

Anyway, I have never been very impressed with PS2 or it's games, and I still feel that way. There are a few games which look ok, but nothing special. That's not changed at all...

Xbox is pretty much what I expected. There are a few gems (JSRF), mainly from SEGA... but not much else interests me. I do give MS credit for handling things fairly well though, like making the new smaller controller (which I have yet to try). I hope more games are released which appeal to me.. it might happen.

My opinion on Gamecube is the same as it has always been. I think it's a great console. I like the look and feel of it, as well as some of the games....... but there are really not enough games out there yet for me to buy one.
