Thread: Uncharted: Drake's Fortune

It's incredibly hard to find pants that fit with the crowd that has gathered down there.

  2. So I'm on chapter 8 now. The combat hasn't really slowed down as much as I'd like, but the rest of the game is so damned good I'm going to stick with it.

I'm playing on normal and I could probably swing a harder difficulty if I could aim worth a fart with the analog stick.

    You're welcome.

  4. I agree with everyone who says that you need to FINISH this game before you knock it. Really, the last one third of this game is what pushes it from a score of a solid 8.0 to a 9.5 IMHO.

Like everyone else has already mentioned, its a short game too. By the time you get to the Jet Ski section, the chapters seem to get a lot shorter and the gameplay opens up a little and becomes much more diverse.

  5. finished this game yesterday

i love how it made me want to play the thing through in a single sitting. and i will credit this feeling to the excellent storytelling and presentation. the story wasnt the best, but it was like playing through an action movie that you dont want to pause

the last 1/3 of the story was the worst part for me, but fun-wise were definitely the best levels in the game. I really hate that they dragged it into supernatural territory. The el dorado mythology was cool, just wish it would have been more grounded in the end. too many games take this cop out nowadays

for a play-style summation (previously mentioned) this game is tomb raider + indiana jones + gears + james bond. and its not any of those games, it takes the best parts and makes them its own

i for one love the gears style shooting/cover, it wasnt perfect, but not having the game aim for you is a huge plus for us FPS players who like a challenge. mixing it up as a brawler once in awhile was also a blast

the only thing i would have left out gameplay wise were the push button cutscene sequences, they just didnt fit in and kinda draws you out of the situations you are in

Drake is extremely likable, the closest character comparison I could think of is Ash (Bruce Campbell) in Army of Darkness. Just your everyday dude kicking ass. They could have easily ruined the character with a few minor attitude changes, but for this guy they really nailed it . Huge thumbs up

Another big welcome was the perfect voice acting for the main characters (some of the sub characters were meh). This probably has the best voice acting of any game ive played to this point

The scenery was also beautiful and some of the spanning open shots of the ocean and jungle were just breathtaking.

On the video side, I did have the tearing problem and also motion blur at some points, so its not just Gooch. It was almost unbearable in some scenes

My First playthrough was on normal and was extremely easy, I want to grab all the artifacts so ill prob do another run through. (Ended up with 35/60)

If you guys havent checked them out yet, there are some unlockable videos after beating the game in the bonus menu. They show things like making of, motion capture, voice capture, etc. They are really well done and very informational/interesting esp the actor motion capture stuff. Naughty dog also seems like a very cool company internally from these vids

Havent decided my final top 10 list, this will prob be on there, but not at #1. It was a solid 8.5, possibly 9.0 for me.

now, i cant wait for a sequel. This is a great new franchise and I hope they will continue and improve the series

P.S. The jet skis are really easy, just go slow when you know there wil be a guy shooting at you. stop whenever you can barely see him on the screen, blast him, go forward a little more until the next guy, rinse/repeat

  6. were you playing on 1080i necro? i heard that thats where tearing is very noticeable. It popped up now and then for me but nothing glaringly obvious or frequent.

Why is everyone playing on normals and easy!? I guess its my playing a lot of gears that i dove into this bad boy on Hard.

A lot of the replay unlockables are awesome i had an amazingly hardy laugh at the "next gen filter"

    Crushing difficulty here i come.

yeah 1080i, hmm. the gameroom dlp is a 720p/1080i set. i usually have games on 720 and movies on 1080, didnt think of swapping it after watching some Blu discs

i chose normal first because i just wanted to beat it quickly. i got so many games for xmas and im going nuts wanting to play all of them

  8. I am in like a gaming rut, i have a bunch of games i havent touched with no desire to play them

i wanna play FFXII for some reason

Yeah, I found it easy as well. All I did was floor it, stop, shoot explosive barrel, repeat. I think I killed one enemy other both sequences.

On Chapter 14 now. Only put it down because my wife came up and it was her turn to play Zack & Wiki (which we play together anyway). Going to polish this one off sometime today.

  10. Aaaand I finished it.

Although I hated the combat (last church scene was super irritating), the rest of the game was fantastic. This is one of the most engrossing cinematic games I have ever played.

PROS: Gorgeous, visually and musically. Superb voice acting and storyline. Feels like a movie. Drake's one-liners were awesome. Tomb Raider-like sequences were great and enhanced by everything I just mentioned.

CONS: Frustrating cover system and if you hate Gears (I don't think any has or ever will but...) or you do not want it in this game, you will not like the combat.

    9.0 out of 10. If I could use a mouse+keyboard for the combat, 10 out of 10.

So what I want to know is... with the descendants, I could run and gun them with ease, which actually was a blast and a nice change of pace. Having to not worry about cover was awesome. Then I try and do the same with the muchos gringos and it is useless. Why the inconsistency?
