Nah, he's just lookin in the wrong direction

No, I think my real beef comes from the comparison between the two games. I don't really care what system its on, since thinking of it as an Xbox exclusive doesn't change my opinion any. I definitely should be more optimistic about a game I haven't played though.

Forget what I said before if you can. I still think DOA Volleyball looks better though.

AM2 vs. Team Ninja. Hmmm, tough choice! One on hand we have the greatest arcade development team of all time, and on the other we have the team known for putting bouncing breasts in shallow fighting games. Or maybe its because people have played and liked beach spikers, while all we've seen of DOA is girls in bikinis running around. I don't even remember seeing anything that resembled gameplay footage.

  4. well, Spikers feels a lot like Virtua Tennis, that much I know. DoA isn't even playable, but if it comes close to arcadey sports fun, then I'm down.

But seeing as how the entire DoA franchise was based on fighters, only for this to come around...it makes you wonder if Tecmo has gameplay in mind. I mean honest...it could play like crap and still sell in droves.

Granted, though everyone should at least be given a little optimism when they try something new, like AM2 did with Outtrigger... maybe that's not such a good example.

And I think that Tecmo might be the problem. I really think Team Ninja has a fun game in mind, but Tecmo might have other ideas and they're really the ones who call the shots. And it does suck that DOA Volley will sell even if the gameplay is terrible so there's nothing really preventing that from happening, but I liked DOA3 myself so I'm pretty optimisic about it.

I won't be buying DOA Volleyball if the gameplay doesn't measure up to the visuals, no matter how enticing those visuals may be. And this topic has made me feel a lot more optimistic about Beach Spikers than I was before. Maybe I can trick one of my friends into buying a gamecube.

  6. Dead or Alive Volleyball. Let's all sit back and think about that name for a moment (actually, isn't the name DOA Extreme Sports Volleyball or something? That's what was in the E3 video). Doesn't it sound to you more like the characters should be some wierd humourous version of volleyball, all of them vicious and evil (or maybe cowboys).

When thinking about the name itself (not the connection it has to the regualr game DOA), volumptous females in tiny bikinis doesn't really spring to mind. But hey, I suppose that's part of the charm.

  7. On the other hand, Beach Spikers is the first title in the spikers series that actually makes sense. I'm still wondering what a 'virtua' is though.

  8. AM2 can beat on Team Ninja like it was its step child. Team Ninja has people who can draw hot chicks and an overly arrogant producer. Yu owns them all. Shenmue II and VF4 people. Chech.

But I must say that DOA Volleyball LOOKS better than Spikers. As for the gameplay, I haven't palyed DoA but I did play Spikers. Good fun.

Your'e right, Outtrigger is a pretty poor example. That game was a huge dissapointment

If that's not a microcosm of the entire Xbox vs GC debate, I don't know what is.
