I remember hearing rumors about a year ago that Kojima really wanted Ryuhei Kitamura (Versus, Azumi, Godzilla FW, etc) to direct it after working with him on Twin Snakes. I'd love to see what he could do with a decent budget and American actors.

After years of rumors, it looks like Mike De Luca is finally bringing METAL GEAR SOLID to theaters. It’s early days yet, but that’s exciting news, and I’m sure this will be a film we pay close attention to as it develops.

He's the pres of development at Dreamworks Pictures. He used to be at New Line Cinema, but he got riffed. He executive produced a lot of stuff at New Line, like the first two Blade films and Dark City.
