IAWTP. This is my biggest concern with the iPhone*. It's pretty stupid considering how necessary keys are for those who constantly text and e-mail on their Blackberries and other smart phones.

by the time touchscreen phones become the standard, i doubt people will be wasting time with text messaging when they could just send a voice message instead.

I think this will be a mainstream technology in the foreseeable future, but it won't replace traditional input methods. POS machines, information kiosks, tablet PCs, etc. would all benefit from the improved functionality, but do you really want to have to touch your tv or computer screen? It's not just a matter of getting shit dirty, there are ergonomic and practical reasons that make it a bad idea. I like to sit far from the tv, and holding my arms up to my computer monitor for hours at a time doesn't sound too healthy.

Well, like you said, you're not going to be typing up papers with a standard touch screen. Now, the trick is to get a touchscreen that can provide some kind of feedback so that you can tell when you're pressing icons. Imagine have a rectangular touchscreen below your monitor in place of a keyboard that can provide a tactile sensation; you'd be able to easily and quickly switch between application menus, visual shortcuts, commands, and standard keyboard layouts on the fly. This gives you an enourmous amount of control which is far more more intuitive than learning fifteen different variations of Ctrl+G depending on what program you have open.

I don't understand how that will work for home use. I can see it being used like for board room meetings or a leacher in school, but for home use I'm not standing up do do shit. Or sitting that close to my monitor to touch it

I don't think it's even being developed for home use at the moment, considering the only people who could have them in their homes are Bill Gates and probably Warren Buffet. Can't wait till they start using that shit in 24 though.
