Thread: Justice League of America - Live Action

  1. The movie could be cool but with the Superman and Batman franchises having actors cast in each, putting a different actor in their suits at the same time would be weird and stupid.
Korly-"Everyone here is an asshole, SURPRISE!"

  2. Well there are already two people playing Superman right now. And I don't know a whole lot about whats going on in Smallville, but if they intend to make "Smallville" into "Metropolis" then having him be in the JLA wouldn't be a bad way to segue things. Of course, if they do that then having Christian Bale as Bats would make it seem like they were too cheap to pay one and not the other.

  3. Somebody posted this in the AICN talkback re: the Shazam announcement...
Why a Sin City/300-esque superhero flick?

If these hyperactive, stylized movies based on GNs are popular (I'm guessing 300 is about to be), why not a superhero movie in the same style? That sort of look and feel to a movie seems to allow for the over-the-top look and feel that directors try to avoid trying to make the films "realistic". I'd like to see a superhero that doesn't need modified, bland, colorless outfits. Somebody's gotta try it eventually!
...and I thought, this is the approach they need to take with the JLA flick.

  4. From IGN FilmForce:
    Superman Sequel Scrapped?
Man of Steel may join JLA instead.
    by Stax

March 19, 2007 - Last week's news that Bryan Singer was developing a new thriller with his Usual Suspects screenwriter Chris McQuarrie sparked the speculation that the director's Superman sequel may have stalled.

Now comes a report that claims the sequel may have been scrapped entirely, but that doesn't mean Brandon Routh will be retiring his Super-duds anytime soon.

According to Moviehole.net, Warner Bros. is considering postponing (or outright shelving) a direct sequel to Superman Returns in favor of putting the Man of Steel in their recently announced Justice League of America movie.

The site adds that Batman would not be involved in the Justice League film, leaving that franchise separate from both Superman and JLA.

IGN heard the same rumors over the weekend, but our inquiries to our Superman sources had gone unanswered at time of publish.
Lame if true. First, I'm against connecting the continuity to any of the existing Batman/Superman film franchises as I've already stated, and second, if Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman aren't all in it, there's no point.

  5. Year One > most JLA runs, and that didn't have any of them.

  6. This report is strange, as you just posted in the Superman Returns thread yesterday that Singer's Superman sequel was on track for to start early shooting later this year.

    Batman's JLA Status
Will the Dark Knight be a Super Friend?
    by Stax

March 22, 2007 - The online rumor mill was abuzz this week with reports that Bryan Singer's sequel to Superman Returns may be shelved in favor of putting the Man of Steel in Warner Bros.' planned live-action Justice League of America movie.

Variety countered those rumors, saying that Singer would indeed direct the Superman sequel but after helming a World War II thriller with Tom Cruise first.

Initial reports also claimed that Warners did not want to include Batman in the JLA movie. But a new story claims that the Dark Knight will indeed be part of the film's roster of superheroes.

According to IESB.net's sources, reports of Batman's exclusion from the film are untrue and that Warners intends on utilizing their other most famous comic book hero besides Superman for what could be a hugely expensive film.

They also point out that Christian Bale said while doing press for Batman Begins that he was signed to a three-picture deal, one of which could be a team-up film of some kind.

Think of JLA as Warners' answer to Fox's X-Men franchise -- the third installment of which out grossed Superman Returns at the 2006 summer box office -- or their Fantastic Four series (the first FF film accomplished something that Batman Begins could not at the time, which was to break the summer '05 box office slump).

Kiernan and Michele Mulroney (the Mr. & Mrs. Smith TV pilot) are writing the JLA script.
Good to see someone at Warner's apparently has a few neurons to rub together and produce a thought every now and then.

MTV caught up with Ryan Reynolds, who has been mentioned often as a frontrunner for The Flash. In the quotes, he leaves the door open that he might be involved with the Justice League of America movie instead of a standalone flick:

I don't really know how much I'm allowed to talk about that stuff. But I'm sure they'll figure out something. It's no secret that they have a JLA script and it's a project that's in development – the contents of which, who knows. We'll see."

  9. So, Christian Bale apparently isn't signed to play Batman in the JLA movie, at least not yet.

  10. I heart the shit outta Ryan Reynolds. He would be the most awesome Flash ever but he'd be a better Deadpool.
