If there was no Actors strike in June. This movie would not seem so rushed. They would have negotiated with Bale, Roth, and others. The problem with Roth was Singer is planning on a Superman sequel the same time as JLA. That would have conflicted with Roth's schedule. So they tried Tom Welling. He declined for unspecified reasons. Bale said no cause of the conflict with DK and it was too soon. In other words they are telling the actors they want to start filming in January or February.

Also, Tom Welling declined because he doesn't want to wear the Superman suit. He even had it written into his Smallville contract that he wasn't to wear the suit as part of his agreement to do the show.
