Thread: Edge Reviews - March 2007

  1. I don't agree with that Hotel Dusk review score. Sure, the game doesn't offer much in the sense of "traditional gameplay elements," but everyone should realize that they are playing a "point and click" style adventure game before they even turn on the game. As long as everyone realizes this going in, I think Hotel Dusk is a fine example of the genre done correctly; with a nice visual style and compelling storyline. Moreover, its definitely one of the best uses of the DS' dual screen technology to date......so I really don't see where they get a score of a 6 from.

Well, there is some free DL content coming and possibly a pay-for one after that. Moreover, the game is only short if you do only the main missions, much like GTA or Saints Row. I've heard people say that the game is only 10 hours long, but Nirvana and I spent 6 hours last night just looking for orbs and shooting shit.

I'd give Crackdown an 8, because of how the camera acts in tight places (especially when you jump) and because of some of the annoying glitches that still plague the sandbox genre. Aside from that, it's a rock solid game that's a blast to play.

  3. I wasn't into GTA very much, and didn't love the Crackdown demo, so I'm also baffled by the crazy love it's been getting. To me it shall remain that game that comes with the Halo 3 beta, if you so have to go that route.

  4. Hotel Dusk: Room 215 (DS) - 6
Wait, I've heard nothing but great things about HD, so why such an average score?

  5. Isn't Edge the magazine that's trying to make 5 an average score?

There are a lot of things that could turn people off HD, like a really slow start and some obnoxious puzzles here and there.

Hotel Dusk is a great game if you enjoy interesting dialogue and compelling mystery stories. If you prefer your games to have less of a story though, and significantly less dialogue, then Hotel Dusk may not be your thing. For the kind of game it is though, its definitely better than a 6.

I also don't understand it when people like what I don't like.

    On a scale of 1 - 10, what would you call 5?

  9. Most mags don't treat 5 as average though. They act more like 7 is. That's the point.

  10. But they're wrong.
