The enemy patterns seem to lack variety. I count maybe 3 different kinds of enemies in the first stage- far less than the Thunder Force games have. The waves of the gray spinning ships near the start of the 1st stage needed to be broken up by some other enemy types. Stage 2 is a tad better, but it's lame how the 2nd stage boss mostly moves around in circles.
My hopes are a little bit down. I don't like what I'm hearing from some other Shmups forum members. This game doesn't look like it has jack on TF IV, but at least the soundtrack is hot.
I think I'll raise the difficulty one step up from default before I start playing this- well, if that's possible anyway. Hopefully there's some key to do this, since the title screen just has Start and Quit.

I finally got my copy of Broken Thunder today, and well- the game is indeed a little "broken".
The gameplay lacks any kind of special scoring system, and is shot down by some ho-hum enemy patterns. Graphics are a bit ugly thanks to some lackluster 3D models for the enemies. There are no real obstacles or environmental hazards in the levels, except for an asteroid field in one of the stages. And where's the cool voice that calls out weapon names when you grab the items? MIA. This game is only 5 stages long.
For all the damage the bosses take, they should go through several more attack patterns. The boss fights are a little boring.
What is great about BT is the soundtrack by Tsukumo Hyakutaro and a few other composers. Unfortunately, the game just doesn't deserve such great BGM.
Don't go expecting Thunder Force 6 or even another TF4. If you do, prepare for a letdown. It feels more like some other shooter with the Thunder Force weapon select system slapped in. Whenever it gets completed, Garow's Thunder Future is most likely going to beat this by a long shot.

After seeing a vid of the final stage I take back anything good said about the project. Weird that the only boss in level 5 with ANY animation is a firebird that doesn't fit in with anything else in the level. The last boss actually looks like a rip of the guardian of the final boss in TF4.
