Thread: Official PC Thread

  1. I've never completed the story in Skies of Arcadia, because of the horrible random battles after getting past the rift. I have finished the story of Grandia II, because it was the perfect mix of battles and story.

I played through Grandia II last year sometime. It's still one of my favorite RPGs ever, it has everything I love about RPGs without being overly long or convoluted.

  3. I never beat Skies of Arcadia because of this incredibly long dungeon near the end of the game with no save points, filled with teleporter pads. After 90 minutes of wandering I stepped on a pad, glitched into the floor, realized I wasn't getting out, and turned it off forever.

  4. Skies of Arcadia is pretty bad. The slow, brain dead battle system is just the beginning. It's also a mishmash of every bad story cliche and character cliche in JRPGs. Collect a bunch of crystals from generic themed worlds/dungeons to overthrow an evil empire who destroyed your village or some shit. The only thing it had going for it were the unique islands in the sky setting and (for the time) excellent graphics.

Grandia II I played through twice and enjoyed quite a bit. The linearity and lack of interesting puzzles or dungeon design keep it from being an all time favorite but it's playable and enjoyable.

  5. I played through Grandia 2 on the pc years ago (its considered a poor port though I had no problem) and thought the game was fine but not great. I actually thought it was kinda boring. What I want is a remaster of the first Grandia. I never played the translated original on the PSX though I do know that its not as good as the Saturn original visually. I do hope Grandia 2 does well on Steam if it means more remasters of JRPGs. I know most of the Ys games did very well on Steam.

I forgot about the new Tales game coming out. I'm waiting for the pre-orders to pass the third "pre-purchase award" so I can get Symphonia for free. I'm sure it'll make it before the game is released as there is always that final pre-order push.

I liked that you could build your own town in sky's. I liked ww2 sky's characters in valk chronicles

  7. Huh, I think I was under the impression that Skies had somehow garnered universal love. A lot of the issues brought up are certainly true, but for whatever reason they really didn't impact my enjoyment of the game. Just thinking about that world and flying island to island puts me in a good mood.

I forgot about Tales of Symphonia too. Steam already has a decent library of shooting games, it's cool that we're starting to get some more classic JRPGs now, as well.

I'm not sure I'd go that far.

  9. Well, sure. It's a relative statement. Compared to some other platforms its library of good STGs is fairly abysmal, but they've been coming for awhile now and its current offerings exceed what my expectations five years ago would have been by about 500%.

    I can't argue with that.
