Their Phenom II processors were competitive with the C2Q and Bloomfield CPUs; They offered pretty good bang for the buck. The FX lineup was pretty bad though. I'm pretty sure that Intel would jack up their prices if they had no competition at all on the desktop front. AMD may crumble without the lawsuit, if their 2016 CPU fails to make any headway.
It might replace Apples own A processors for their ipad, but they aren't quite up to par with Intel's laptop i5 and i7 processors, though their graphics hardware is pretty solid. Arm has a long ways to go before it touches the performance of Intel's flagship desktop CPUs.It's not like Intel isn't trying. They just hit a wall. Skylake and Broadwell were both underwhelming. They're competing against ARM (mostly Apple, because they have the best chips) but are getting their ass kicked. What is the mobile market is also getting really blurry. The A9X is comparable in a lot of ways to the CPU in the Surface Pro 4. The performance is getting really close and/or even better. Apple has switched architectures twice in their existence, what's stopping them from switching to ARM at some point?
