    Randy Newman has been doing sountracks as long as he's been doing albums. He comes from a family of film composers (8 first cousins and uncles with successful careers scoring films). His uncle Alfred Newman was a legendary composer nominated for over 40 Oscars, and Randy learned from the best. He's scored dozens of movies, nominated for 16 Oscars... Some of his albums have even taken the form of pseudo-sountracks to non-existent musicals (Good Old Boys and Faust, both of which I'd highly reccomend).

    Don't compare this to the Phil Collins/Elton John shit. Newman knows what he's doing.

    And, besides, the movie is set in 1920s Louisiana. Who could possibly be better to do a blues/ragtime influenced musical than Newman? It would almost be weird to have anyone else.

    Disney should make an original movie for once. It annoys me that all their movies are just cribbed (with acknowledgement or not) from other sources.

    They had been doing nothing but for years. Lilo and Stitch, Brother Bear, Treasure Planet, Atlantis, Home on the Range... And they did them back in the day sometimes, too. Dumbo, Aristocats, etc.

    Treasure Planet was a futuristic revision of Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island. But I agree on the rest (even if Atlantis basically is Disney's version of Stargate).
