Well Starcraft isn't an FPS, so I wouldn't consider for this situation. Since an RTS game being balanced is based on many different variables that aren't taken into consideration in an FPS, and vice versa.

As far as Wolfenstein/Enemy Territory goes, I am not talking about having different classes of characters, that's fine, and if done well is a lot of fun. I'm talking about having two separate teams where everyone is the same character, yet each team has completely different abilities. If you actually read what Brian said, he wanted Locusts and Humans to have different abilities.

This is exactly what happens in Enemy Territory games:

In Wolfenstein, the Nazis and Americans all have access to the same classes, yet there are distinct differences between the weapons/abilities that each team has.

The same will be true for Quake Wars: Enemy Territory, only these differences will become even more pronounced this time since the Strogg and Human teams are being built to provide extremely different playing experiences, moreso than any FPS to date, actually.

Very interesting. As long as it works well and is balanced and fun I'm all for it, I'm definitely going to have to check that out. The only Wolfenstein game I have really played was Return for Xbox, so I was basing my experience off of that.

When is Quake Wars even slated to come out? I remember it was supposed to be released a while ago, and I just kind of stopped following it.

Quake Wars is scheduled for release sometime this fall (an August release is likely).

you sure about that? I know Quake Wars will be like this.. but Wolf: ET pretty much has the same classes and abilities with maybe two weapons (thompson/mp40 & snipe/engineer grenader) looking different but shooting pretty much the same.

all classes on both sides have the same abilities, unless there is something that i'm missing.

the different corporations in planetside had different weapons and such.. and led to huge balancing issues.

You are right in that Wolf: ET had the exact same abilities for each side except for a few different weopons, but Quake wars takes that to the next level. Each side has different skills. Both sides run the same and take damage the same, but a class on one side can do things that the same class on the other side can't. I personally don't like it as much cause some really are better or just more fun to use than others, but they did a good job with it none the less.

  9. UT3 is another game that has differences between races... in this case at least the vehicles sets will be entirely different.

I'm really looking forward to ET:QW... hopefully it doesn't drop in the same time frame as Left 4 Dead... that would be rough.
