The whole goofiness can be subjective, but like I said in other reply, maybe Del Toro decided that the first turned out bit grim and cranked up joke factor a bit, and now alienated another side of the crowd

Well I guess they nailed it, but I hated it. I could have done without it.

  3. The young Hellboy didn't bother me in the least actually. I thought that entire scene was pretty awesome and well thought out. The style given to the CG of the storytelling was really really awesome looking. And I thought the look they gave to Hellboy was a great representation of what Ron Perlman would have looked like as a young Hellboy. But I also completely understand why people would be turned off by it.

It was actually one of the only parts of the movie where I thought they nailed the soundtrack too. Giving the entire story he told a very dark feel to it (which was in complete contrast to the rest of the movie).

Yeah, I completely agree. The feel of it just didn't hit a good note with me. Though for as much as I didn't like all of that goofy non sense, I'm actually looking forward to seeing it again because of how well everything else was done. Nearly every scene involving the Prince, and the last 25 min of the movie, had some of the most gorgeous art direction I have seen in a movie in a long long time.

  4. I enjoyed HB punching the old lady troll. Punching old people is always funny. Or kicking in the face.(Hot Fuzz)

  5. Awesome movie! Loved every minute of it.

  6. I love Hellboy. And yes, his comics did have a lot of silly shit in it. But not as much as was in the first. The sarcasm is fine when it's not played up for jokes, and just comes out as dialog as Hellboy goes about his ass-kicking. So Despair's comments and defense of the overuse scares me. I plan on seeing this shortly.

  7. I think this was easily one of the most ambitious sequels ever, but sadly it fell short of the original in almost every way. The chemistry the charcters had seemed to slip away, and jsut come off as corny and over the top. The villains were cool, at least as cool as the nazi clock zombie from the first movie. And there's some good fights, but aside from the last one I felt the fights from the first were better. And hellboy and Liz was fucking painful this time, the whole baby thing was just a stupid idea

Seeing you two say this shit makes me even wonder if either of you ever opened a Hellboy book. All of the books I read, were dark, atmospheric, moody books and the only time any joking went down was when Hellboy was whupping ass, or afterwards he'd say something clever to make you snicker - and even then is wasnt on a Peter Parker level of annoying quips. Not this Looney Tunes, Bugs Bunny shit with Hellboy's face being smashed into a locker, melodrama with babies, twins, and bitchy stuck-up girlfriends, HB being an anti-social frat-boy like dick to fellow agents, or nonsensical side character love stories.

What the fuck did you guys read? Because it sure wasnt Hellboy...

  10. I thought that the "tooth" fairy bit was clever and cringe-worthy. Loved how they told the man/elf/goblin story, and the style and choreography of every scene in which the Prince showed off his martial skills. The weapons, crown and elven dress were very nicely designed as well. Hellboy and Abe getting smashed to "I Can't Smile" was hilarious.

I wasn't really feeling the Liz and Hellboy sequences and agree that they seemed kind of forced and huffy. "Don't call me babe." "You're intimidated by him." "I'll deal with it."
