Not all of HB books WERE dark and moody my friendYeah, main Hellboy plot line is more serious but he also had plenty of side adventures with more of tongue in cheek feel. Maybe you do need to re-read some of them. Especially some of the BPRD ones. Sure those more about HB friends, but then again, it all falls in into HB universe.
I think you had some pre-expectations for the darkiness of the film, and it DT decided to make it more accessible to general public, and thus made the mistake alienating some of the viewers. I honestly didn't see the extreme goofiness people keep bringing up. HB was always wise cracking type of character, and not the moody Batman one.
Man, people were complaining about original lack of chemistry, characters (especially Myers), etc. Not to single your post as example, or something. Just commenting on the fact that viewers always can find things that just up to their play books and expectations
HB2 had highs and lows, its not perfect comic book flick but damn good one. To me its of the top grade, and I will happily take silliness of HB here over Spiderman and on the level of Ironman. But then its just my own flawed opinion![]()

Dole, I guess it something they feel that needs to be added for the general public to be more comfortable and possibly kid friendlier, when transferring from the pages to the big screen. From what I've read about HB2, it was more of Del Toro project than Mignola's, hence more of high fantasy and high jinks included.
Just saw this last night. I thought it was great. I liked it better than Iron Man or Wanted. HOWEVER, I have never read the Hellboy comics. I wish they would have trimmed off 15-20 minutes of the film though, it felt a little long for me.
I thought the script was hilarious, and the characters were great. The imagination and the creativity in the film also suprised me. It was a great action/comedy, something I haven't seen in a while (fuck you Hancock). For some reason, I got a Ghostbusters sort of vibe from the movie.
Also, Selma Blair is hot.
No way, man. I think YOU need to re-read some Hellboy. Start with Seed of Destruction and go up the list. I dont remember reading any 'tongue-in-cheek' side adventures. I read the first Abe Sapien series and remember it being pretty awesome, not goofy in the least. If BPRD and current HB have gone the way of this second movie, then HB and its creepy little universe are dead to me.
Dude, stop being so jadedTrust me, I know my HB books
Currently reading Hellboy: Darkness Calls and last couple of BPRD books. Not all of the tales are dark and moody, but also not all of tales are bit goofy.
Also, get some reading comprehension. I posted few times that alot of what you disliked came from Del Toro, so take beef with him for adding the comic stuff in.
