    You don't remake a movie that had an A+ actor/movie, using a B- replacement. Kurt Russell is the cream of the crop. Need an example? Watch Tombstone, then go watch Wyatt Earp. There's no comparison.

    Yes. I bitched that it sucked balls.

    I've explained this a million times, but I'll do it yet again: I have NO PROBLEM with the occasional movie being remade if there's a good reason for it. Say, the original wasn't loyal to the book, or the budget was too low to realize the director's vision, or the technology available at the time couldn't do the movie's ideas justice. Whatever.

    What I DON'T like about remakes is that, lately, there's a fucking BILLION of them. It seems like every studio is remaking as many movies as possible. Not because they respect the originals and think, artistically, they need to be improved upon. No, they just want to cash in on the name-brand recognition the originals have with the movie-going public and not have to bother coming up with original ideas. It's big business at its worst.

    A remake like John Carpenter's The Thing is great example of a warranted remake and one that kicked ass. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory isn't. It was almost a scene-by-scene recreation of the original, except they made Willy Wonka into Michael Jackson and the Oompa-Loompas into the most annoying assholes on the planet. It sucked.

    I'm actually boggled that you and Saint of Killers can connect liking a remake made over 20 years ago (during a time when remakes were very rare) and not liking the massive fuckton of remakes that plagues the world today.

  8. Heres what I like Dole. We've had this thread before and we all had this discussion. But noone wants to do the research and use the little search button at the top of the page to see.

    I know where you stand and I have no prob with what you said. You don't have to repeat yourself. If anything I would start going back to the old threads and multi-quote them.

    Relax. I did a search for escape for new york. Only threads relating to the DVD rerelease came up, so I made this one. Check for yourself.

    Never intended to be a 'bitch about remakes' thread, but more of a 'bitch about ruining Escape from New York' thread. Probably would have been better to switch the title and subtitle of the thread too. Eventually, this could have been the Escape thread down the line when new news comes of the movie.

    But what Dole says is still the standard for this kind of discussion imo.

    NO PORT ... I WASN'T AIMING AT YOU! I was aiming at the people complaining about Dole's hating the remakes message. That info was said to death in an old remakes thread.
