    why?

Pellington's past work includes the U23D IMAX project, THE MOTHMAN PROPHECIES, ARLINGTON ROAD, an assortment of music videos (including Alice in Chains and INXS), and more. Guillermo del Toro will be producing the new film from a script co-written by Guillermo and Larry Fessenden.
The original "Orphanage" stars Belen Rueda ("The Sea Inside") as a woman who takes over the orphanage where she was raised, to open a home for disabled children. Then her young son begins to play with the same imaginary friend who terrorized her when she was a child.

The original film, while rather slowly paced, is abundant in atmosphere and rather nicely styled. If you haven't taken a look at it yet, you can find it at Netflix (disc or streaming) HERE, or on DVD & Blu-Ray HERE.
The "Why remake this?" rule applies here as far as I'm concerned -the only goal of doing so would appear to be an Americanization of the concept (a la THE RING).

  2. Because Hollywood doesn't think some spic-o director can do as good a job as a true red-blooded AMERICAN! FUCK YEAH!!

Actually, I never saw the original, but I heard it was good. Was it?

  3. Eh. It was Mom Horror.

  4. Olyphant to play Plissken?

I know you are remaking Escape From New York next, as well as Blood of the Innocent. So who is Timothy Olyphant going to play? Jack the Ripper? Dracula? Or Snake Plissken?

Breck Eisner: (Laughs) All three if you ask me. I love working with Timothy Olyphant, and I will be working with him again. He is an amazing actor. A talented guy. And he's incredibly funny. He needs to do a great comedy, because he is a funny guy. But I will work with him again. I can promise you that.

Can you talk at all about this idea? That he might very well be our next Snake Plissken?

Breck Eisner: Creatively, he would be great for it. We have not yet discussed internally within the studio who will play Snake Plissken. There are many factors that go into those discussions. First and foremost, obviously, is the creative one. We can't make the movie unless we get the perfect Snake Plissken, and that's a tall order. There are very few guys that could do it. He would definitely be one of the guys who could. There is no question about that.
I'm not a devious man by nature... but when you're unarmed, your tactics might gonna be downright Archimedean.

  5. Even at his Deadwood grittiest, he wasn't that gritty. I don't see him pulling of Snake. He just seems too clean cut.

  6. He was "the chump" on Deadwood, I didn't understand him playing Hitman either.

  7. He seemed awfully amiable for an institutionalized assassin.

  8. I feel like he would be a really good "Hicks," if they ever decided to make that William Gibson Alien 3 for some reason.

  9. Bullock on Deadwood was probably the only person with a moral compass (which actually hurt the town at points). Him playing Snake seems a stretch.

Sawyer from Lost would make a good Plisken.

  10. Can we get a remake of last summer's GI Joe movie? Allen Rickman in a diving helmet as Destro? Please?

Or how about a remake of the Smurf movie that is currently in development? Move it to L.A. and cast Steven Tyler as Rockin' Smurf and Shaq as Rappin' Smurf. That way you could add more skateboarding.

...Maybe remake UHF starring Dane Cook?
