Thread: Forgotten Worlds (Genesis)

  1. Forgotten Worlds (Genesis)

I just picked this game up finaly. And I found something very odd. I was running it through a 32X and using a official Sega 6-Button pad. The game would load up and everything and I would start a game, the intro would go and when the game was supposed to start the game over screen would just pop up. I made sure Turbo or anything was on, and it wasn't. I unpluged the 6-Button and pluged in a old official Sega 3 button pad (man I hate those) and it works fine. Odd eh? Anyone else ever have this happan, maybe its because its an older game.

But onto the game. This game is really cool, but pretty hard. I not a huge fan of the fact you have one life. Plus that power meter goes down extremely quick. I know you can buy things to make you stronger and such, but one life and game over? Ouch. Oh well thats what makes it such a challange I guess. Also are there any other releases of this game on other systems? And if so how much better or worse are they?

There was a thread about this a while back.

You need to hold the "mode" button on the side of the 6-button controller when the system turns on.

Thanks to Melf for that one, the only person on this board who's a bigger Forgotten Worlds fan than I am.

There was also a version released for the PC-Engine Super CD. It has all the levels, including the ones omitted from the Genesis version, but it's 1-player only.

There's also a version for the Master System, believe it or not.

  3. The Genesis version is way too easy, if you ask me. I can slam down the Hard setting with no trouble.

Try the Napalm satellite weapon. It KILLS! The Dust Dragon really goes down quick under this one.

    Finished in 2021: 8 games (PC: 4, PS4: 2, PS3: 1, X1: 1)

  4. I have the Amiga version of the game. I've never played the Genesis version, but I've heard it's good. The Amiga sound chip is phenominal, and it's version had voice cuts, in between levels.

Even though you only have one life, you can pick up sheild spheres, like those found in Gradius. You can even purchase a longer life bar, at the store.

  5. I think the that 6 button glitch is the best thing this game has going for it, because aside from that it's pretty much...

I got caught by the 6-button problem with Forgotten Worlds too.

I like FW but I still haven't played any other version but the Genesis one.

  7. I prefer the Turbo version over the Genny one, it has flicker and one player but the music and full level roster make up for that. It also has some horrible voice... *-neo

  8. ...it's all about the arcade unit with the rotary knob/fire button...

  9. I like the arcade version best of all, but that rotary knob is a tad awkward if you try to hold it in and turn at the same time to rotate the satellite in place.

If Capcom would've used a Tron style control layout (joystick with trigger, plain spinner), that would've been perfect. I'd reckon that's possible if an owner wanted to customize the control setup somehow- I'm sure it's JAMMA.

    Finished in 2021: 8 games (PC: 4, PS4: 2, PS3: 1, X1: 1)

  10. Forgotten Worlds is about my favorite or second favorite arcade game... The Genesis version is very good, though altered in level design, zenny dispersal and other little details. The removed level thing sucks, but that's the price of an '89 port of an '88 arcade game, I guess.

And I'd have to agree that the game is pretty easy... I'm no gaming expert, either. I beat the game on Normal, upped it to Hard and didn't notice much of a difference, finishing with some extra lives on top of that.

I think the worst part about the Genesis port is that the bosses have been taken a few steps down on the "wow!!" meter, especially Dust Dragon. The music is nice, however, and the control setup works as perfect as it can without the special arcade setup.
