They're the original movies, but theyre lifted from the Laser Disc release, basically it's the laser disc release put onto a DVD. Which means the quality of the picture and sound is complete ass for what can be done on dvd.

AFAIK the recent DVDs are a re-release of the "Special Edition" movies that he managed to ruin back in the late 90s. This time he's fucked them even more with changes that never should have been made. See here.
ATM the best I can do is a LD transfer of the films on DVDs (thank you interwebs). I'd even accept the "special edition" style enhancement updates as long as it's purely cleaning up of the *original video and sound* with no extra crap. Actually, that would be really nice.
