Sounds like an awesome day.
Too bad it didn't involve Mo and Jeter dying in a plane crash.
I had a fucking awesome day today.
Got to the Colosseum at 1pm, met Vida Blue and Nick Swisher. Vida pitched us some BP on the field. Nick gave me some pointers on my swing and I hit one about 10 feet shy of the warning track in front of the wall at 360 feet. It was the greatest feeling. I was cranking balls when I made contact. I missed a lot but I always sucked at hitting. Vida told me I need to stop swinging for the fences, but I don't care I wanted to hit one out so bad! I shagged balls when the other people were up. There were 8 of us all together. It was great.
We stood around and talked for a while after that. They commented on my Red Sox hat! I told them if I'd have shown up in a brand new A's hat they'd have seen right through me anyway. I tried to get Vida to help me throw a curve but we didn't really have time, he just showed me the grip and how to spin it but I never got to try it out. I asked Swisher who he hates facing the most and he said K-Rod, and he doesn't like Beckett much either. They mostly talked about life in the majors, pitching injury problems, and about the A's. I got Vida to sign a BP ball and took that home. I forgot to get Swisher to sign anything, I didn't realize he was leaving at the time before he disappeared.
After that we left the stadium for an hour and a half to grab some food. We got back and they took us down on the field during BP. I was about 30 feet behind the cage and got to watch Piazza, Swisher, and some other A's do BP. The White Sox came out and they were doing stretches just to my right. We had to leave the field as the Sox started their BP. We went to the seats they gave us, which were beyond the home dugout on the 3rd base side, 4th row right in front of the bullpen. Dye started taking BP and hit a bunch of bombs into the bleachers but by the time we got out there he was done. A couple more balls came into the general area but I wasn't in position to catch any.
Went back to the seats and watched the game but I had to leave early. It got cold and all I had with me was a tshirt. I was pretty tired and I had been there all day so I figured it was ok to violate my own rule to never leave before the last pitch. Vida Blue and Nick Swisher were both awesome guys, as were the TV station folks who acted as our hosts.
I didn't have my camera but my friend took a ton of pictures. I'll post some as soon as he sends them too me.
Sounds like an awesome day.

How 'bout those Baltimore Orioles Rich? 8-4 on the season against the Yanks. If only we could play them every day...
The Os have our number. Not much else to it. Their first season series win in something like 10 years.
Oh you mean when Pat Gillick was running the team?
Yes. I don't think it's a coincidence that when Peter Angelos took over the team they took a nose dive. At least our pitching staff is showing some promise.
Seriously. It's like they're bi-polar. One week they're hot, the next week they're losing by 8 runs.
I assume you mean when Angelos took direct control of the baseball operations, because Gillick was working for Angelos while he was there.
Anyone seeing the opening sox game today? What was wrong with Lackey? Sox hung a 6 spot on him in the first inning. How is Buchholtz looking?
