Didn't drag it down, but the battle system was also not the problem in FFVIII anyway.Originally posted by StriderKyo
Yeah, but they took out the one thing that really dragged VII down, the draw system. For most games, yes, and it certainly has a better story and characters than Grandia Xtreme. However, it was probably the most predictable FF (tied with FFIX) aside from the first (obviously), except I never cared about any of the characters. Except Sephiroth, who really needed to slaughter more people, preferably on the level of Id (my favorite Squaresoft bad guy). So how about "Insanely predictable" instead of simplistic?Simplistic? Dude, FF VII's story is alot of things, but simplistic it ain't, especially for a videogame.
I'm sorry, I have this problem with stories where the writing never captures anything for me and I can see every (or almost every) plot point a million miles off. Just having great or imaginative writing and/or wonderful characters can completely negate the story aspect, but FFVII didn't do that for me.
But enough of that. For those wondering and wishing to persue this, I'm sure there are plenty of threads buried in here going at length about said subject. Mainly because I've participated in quite a few of them, so please use the Search command.
I played through it twice. Fun battle system.Originally posted by Cloud
You played FF8 for 86 hours? *shudders*

) and flashbacks have been used heavily in every form of media and writing since fiction was invented. "Unclear dialogue?" The hell is that supposed to do with anything? And none of the plot points needed to be concentrated on to catch onto, I'm not sure what you're even talking about anymore. What needed concentration, can I have an example?
