Thread: Sonic Rush Adventure (DS)

  1. #31
I got to play some Sonic Rush Adventure today. It's nicer looking than the first game and the levels do seem to flow better, at least based on my memory of Rush from when it first came out. I may buy this after all.

  2. The first Rush had very good level flow also. Both Rush games are the fastest Sonic games ever, and they're built for time attack, through and through. In that regard, they're some of the most replayable level designs in the series.

They dropped the ball with the multiplayer in the first one by making it so both people couldn't use the same character. I haven't been able to play the multi in this yet (no WiFi here), so I'm hoping to learn that they fixed this.

Yeah, the level design seemed fine in the first game aside from a few cheap deaths. It could be that I like Rush Adventure more from what I played because I'm more in the mood for it now and my expectations were lower.

  4. This thread made me buy the first one because it's crazy cheap.

If my girl like it she'll buy the new one. Win win imo.

  5. Don't get me wrong, Rush had it's issues, but level design wasn't one of them. The level design in the main levels in Rush Adventure is better, though. The hidden levels are kind of throwaways, but I guess that's somewhat expected.

  6. are the special stages set up the same way? i thought it was great in sonic rush how they went back to sonic 2 style special stages and added a few things.

  7. No more special stages. You get emeralds by racing jet skis now. It's similar to the special stages, really, and plenty fun.

Yeah, the special stages are jetski races, but it's still the same basic idea of navigating Sonic through obstacles with a stylus. The main difference this time is that there's more going on. Honestly, for me it's one of the most fun special stage designs in the series.

I also like the design of many of the hidden islands. They're smaller and more focused, usually just there to explore an idea or two for level design, and they can be refreshing after going through the larger, more labyrinthine stages.

  9. The hidden stages can be kind of cheap, though. A lot of them need to be memorized. They're all full of bottomless pits that you can't predict. The main stages are great, though.
