Maybe it'll be a port of the original. I really enjoyed 2 and 3, but most people seemed to have hated 3.

New Star Ocean Coming
Square Enix to make announcement in mid May.

April 26, 2007 - We were all set to recast the Square Enix Party 2007 event under the new name "Square Enix DS Fest 2007" when we checked Famitsu.com today and learned of a huge announcement set for the show. Square Enix will be holding its "Star Ocean Special Stage" on the morning of 5/12 where, the site reports, the company will unveil a new game in the Star Ocean franchise. Following a video clip and an introduction to the characters and voice actors, the group that's set to perform the theme song will hold a live performance.
It's possible that this announcement will be for a new DS Star Ocean, so we'll still be able to continue with our plans for the name change. On the other hand, the series has made its name on PlayStation hardware, so there's strong hope for a PS3 version.
Maybe it'll be a port of the original. I really enjoyed 2 and 3, but most people seemed to have hated 3.
SO3 was good, though its plot twist was definately out there. I'll admit that part of the reason I liked it was because it was abusable like FFVIII; that was the first time in an RPG where I killed the last boss in about five seconds (and was slightly disappointed that it took that long).
I liked SO3 as well, retarded plot twist aside. I never did kill Freya, but that's because the fight really is just ludicrous. That's part of why I liked it and 2 though, you'll always find a challenge 100+ hours into the game.
I'm never going to play SO3. What was the plot twist?
The entire game (and I think the previous SOs were included in this) was actually an MMO and all of the characters were AI virtual constructs. They emerged into the real world and found a theme park based around their world and ran into people that played with them and all that. I don't recall the specifics of what happened after that and how their existance persisted.
Good news. SO3 had its issues, but it's a series that deserves to continue. No love for the first SO here?
I didn't mind the plot twist, I thought it was an interesting idea.
Also the last boss I couldn't beat until like my 6th try.
And then one day i showed Tain the last boss fight, and I beat it in a few seconds without getting hurt LOL.
DS Star Ocean is fine so long as they back it up with a console game as well.
