For the record, mine was made 3-3-06. I think my new one has a different dvd drive, it sounds different. I forgot to check the date on the back when I put it back in.

A co-workers 360 also had the ring of death as well. He went to Best Buy on Thursday to exchange it since he was still under warranty and had warranty from Best Buy. Employees there tried to give him a hassle by having him return the harddrive as well. He just wanted to swap systems since he didnt want to go through all the trouble of transferring data between the harddrives. Eventually they swapped the systems. He was going to swap it for Elite and pay the difference but they didnt have.

When I took my dead 360 to the UPS store to ship it back for the repairs, the guy saw the nondescript white box and said "Is that an Xbox?" I said "Yeah, why do you see a lot of them?" and he said "Yes."

Pretty bad when the UPS guy can spot a dead 360 going back to MS.
