Thread: This Month's Haul: May 2007

  1. Took advantage at FYE with a 40%off used games coupon and picked up the following 360 games: X Men Last Stand, TMNT, and FEAR. I also picked up Test Drive Unlimited off eBay and Condemned at Sears. All games we're purchased for $22.00 or under.

  2. Burnout Revenge - 360: $30 - $5 GGC = $25.

This is awesome. I'm not sure it's better than Takedown (never played 1 or 2), but then, not much is. No announcer, yay, and the soundtrack isn't pure ass either.

    Dead Rising - 360: $40 - $10 RZ coupon - $5 GGC = $25.

Crap, what have I done. I knew from everything I read that this game would be hell on my OCD tendencies, but I still thought I might be able to get into it. I've only played about an hour, but so far it's confrontationally frustrating for a multitude of reasons, all of them easily adding up to overshadow whatever fun can be had murdering (??) zombies with a cash register. I died after messing around for half an hour, saved at the prompt, and all the sudden I'm starting over from the beginning? lol, not in. Not in at all. If I'd rented it, I'd return it now and never think twice, but since I bought it, know I'll go back many times and try to force out some enjoyment from the salvageable qualities -- and possibly even succeed. Not sure if this is good or bad. I think it's bad.

If I buy a game that turns out to be crap, the first thing I do is sell it off. Dump it on ebay and get get back your $25, then buy a good game. Live a happy life.

Buy some spare fuses. I had that set for a while, it blows them every 6 months.

You're probably right, but I know I can't do this. There are games that I start out hating and end up loving. Ouendan is the most recent example of this. If I'd given up and sold Ouendan after the first hour, I'd never have experienced its true awesomeness. Now I can't wait for the sequel.

It still makes more sense -- efficiency-wise -- to cut my losses and spend time with a game I *know* I like, instead of potentially wasting hours on a game I only *might* eventually like, considering how many titles I need to get through. But I just can't do it. Dead Rising is already calling to me...

  8. Dead Rising is such a different game that it takes some time to understand. It's really overwhelming when you start, stick with it.

  9. Yeah I stayed away from it for a few months but recently picked it up again and it started to click.

There's still plenty of frustrating aspects though, but once the story gets going, and you figure out where to get good weapons and you start encountering all of the psychopaths, it gets more and more fun.

I just wish they'd patch the text for SDTVs and let me skip through the annoying phone conversations.
