Thread: This Month's Haul: May 2007

  1. With any luck and a little more scraping together some funds, one of these by the end of this month

    4 gigs of RAM
    768mb GeForce 8800GTX
500gb HD with room for 3 more
    Dual Core processor at 2.44Ghz
Some other nice bells and whistles

    And one of these:

HP's new 22 inch LCD, with glossy screen. Saw it demoed at Best Buy and it's freaking incredible.

Yes, I know I can build my own. I don't have the time to research and price the individual components. I know actually building it isn't difficult at all. However, if and when something goes wrong, I don't want to have to figure out which of my components is not working properly and having to deal with its manufacturer.

    Check these guys out:

their comps are hella expensive but they do such a great job putting everything together and keeping the cabling neat. Not only do they get great reviews but they're helpful guys as they spent hours just talking to us in store helping to price out features after we told them we had no intention to buy that day.

While you're throwing away money, send some my way.

  4. I'm going to have to BTN. It takes so little time to put together your own rig that it should be your only option. Just make a thread here asking people what they think would be great, buy and build, and enjoy.

The recommendations I received for my rig were spot on.

You bought a PS3 for the PS2 inside it.

I already explained in my post why building my own is more trouble for me than it's worth. I KNOW how easy it is to build my own. But it's not just about building it. You gotta find the components at the price you want, and when something goes wrong it's a lot more trouble to find out the problem and troubleshoot with the part's manufacturer. The Dell, with my employee discount, provides comparable performance with actual customer service to back it up at a price that's not vastly different from building my own.

Oh, you're a Dell employee? That explains everything.

  7. Bond DVD Collection 3 & 4 for $35 each

I work for Washington Mutual, which has a partnership with Dell for a lot of their equipment. So they run an employee program for anyone who wants to buy from them.

Instead of a percentage discount, they offer any employee a flat 500 dollars towards anything they want to buy, or at least anything from their Home or Small Business departments.

  9. Trial, just make a thread, and people will link you to newegg.com product pages. That's IT. It's not a difficult search at all, TNL will build you the exact same Dell for a fraction of the price and link you to everything you need. And newegg.com is amazing at returns, so don't do that fallback.

edit: Okay, $500 is nice. Go for it.

    You're excused.
