Thread: The Last Remnant

  1. Why is that a problem? If anyone would be on the side of someone wanting something cheaper, it's Indians.

It'd be a good idea to install anyway, since the game goes to a load screen when changing areas/entering battles(i.e. often). You'll still get textures that haven't loaded, but it'll take 2-3 seconds for them to show up with it installed, seemed to be twice as much from the disc.
Yes. HD installation with this game is a must. It's playable in it's default state but installing it makes a rather big difference when it comes to performance. Also, I was getting a lot of stuttering and such from the 360 trying to stream data off the disc but after installation all of that was 100% gone.

A warning to those that bought this. If you do all the side quests(Of which there are many) before advancing the main quest you will unlock all the available areas well ahead of time which kind of ruins the fun when your finally taken to one of these locations in the main story. On the other hand, side quests from disc 1 you don't do are no longer available once you get to disc 2. So make sure you've done them all or had your fill before going to disc 2.

  3. Eh, they need to get to the Great Sand Sea as soon as possible, if just for the music.

Yeah though that area has such annoying enemies. Pretty much everything in that area casts Curse, my most hated ailment in this game. Even reviving a Union that was KO'ed by Curse will still revive them with Cursed status. arg.

Yeah, the game's not doing anything for me but I'm still excited to hear the soundtrack in a week or so. It was the only reason I was really excited for this to begin with. Tsuyoshi Sekito is awesome.

  6. Been playing this game for a few hours now, and it's really great. Finally unlocked the ability to gain normal troops to fill out my little army. Oddly, I don't like using the story based characters, since they're not really my team. I didn't hire them. They work for someone else, and they're really only a loan.

Playing it installed. There's rare bits of slowdown, but it's not too bad. Loading times are usually very quick and the game is all about quick navigation and ease of travel, so you get to the meat of things without dicking around. Quests are pretty basic so far, but the combat is fun, so it's hard to mind. Too many cut-scenes though... I've been skipping about half of them and don't feel as if I'm missing anything. There's so much exposition that doesn't really add to the experience at all you have to wonder why its there.

  7. So I started this game last nite, and so far, I think it's undeserving of all the hate it's getting. I think the graphics are good (despite the minimal slowdown and texture pop in), the voice acting and cutscenes are good and the world and story seem pretty interesting so far. If anything, it's made a much better impression on me than Square's last RPG, Infinite Undiscovery. And this game actually feels like a big budget Square game.

But the battle system seems confusing as hell to me. So far I haven't died, and all I've done is mostly select attack, then watch for 5 minutes as the battle animations roll out and all the enemies are dead. I don't get the whole flanking thing because I can't seem to really move my troops on an overhead map. So that feels imprecise. And so far, it doesn't look like theres a whole lot of player control over the battles. It seems like you more or less just suggest to your troops what you would prefer them to do, and then they sort of do it. Which is kind of weird, but I'm hoping I figure things out as I go on, and it's not really that shallow.

  8. You have indirect control of movement in how you charge after enemy groups or choose to hold back. This is actually important when you face multi-deadlock enemies with area attacks. Putting your unions too close to one another there is bad, bad news.

About half the strategy is in how you construct your unions, and the other half is managing your AP while trying to develop your better skills. More you use one skill, the more likely it'll level up. Leveled skills cost the same AP, but do much more damage. Also, certain attacks are more effective against certain enemy types, like a wind attack isn't so great against bird enemies. When you can build unions, try to focus them in certain directions, like a magic group and a physical attack group, but make sure every group has at least one healer, with the more the better.

  9. Based on these impressions -- a) I need to gamefly this game and b) I need a bigger HD -- I only have 6.9 gigs free... arghhhh

It would just fit. Each disk is 6.4. Do what I did and check under memory. You probably have misc game-related junk that you don't want anymore.

Christ, I had the most intense fight ever. At the start I was outnumbered 4 to 7 and then at the end of the first round the enemies brought in reinforcements! It took wits and a lot of herbs, but I slew them and picked up a number of new skills in the process.
