If the cobra had fangs the first bite would have made the kid freak out.
Obviously the snake couldn't actually bit, which makes it really harmless when you think about it.

People, the snake was defanged. It is a real thing that is done to most snake-charming cobras. I know all about it from friends owning an exotic pet store. They had cobras and vipers and all manner of foolish animal.
