It had the overhead boss parts, but the regular ones were cut. And again, same stages, same music... it was an attempt at a conversion as much as the SMS version was.

It's especially bad on the large battleship in stage 1.

Sega should've hired Dempa Micomsoft to port over Thunder Blade and Super Hang-On. Super Hang-On is IMO another botch job on Genesis. The arcade version feels like you're going 278+ Km/H, while the Genesis one feels somewhat slower. Dempa Micomsoft should've been assigned to this job- they did After Burner II on Genesis & X68000 very well, while the X68000 Super Hang-On wasn't bad either.

If a C64 can do the overhead scenes decently in Thunder Blade, the Genesis should also have been able to. Sega didn't even try.

    Finished in 2021: 8 games (PC: 4, PS4: 2, PS3: 1, X1: 1)

  3. OK, here's more pics at Magic Box.

It has the Domestic & Foreign arcade versions, the Mega Drive one, and the Master System one. The arcade one can be played in a Neo Classic Mode with hi-res, 16x9, improved 3D graphics, and translucency.

At this point they pretty much are the reason to have a Japanese PS2, the system seems like it's phasing out quicker than the PSone did when new hardware hit. VO is day one. *-neo

  7. I need to get a Japanese PS2.

  8. YesAsia has a coupon out right now for $5.00 off any purchase.

I ordered Galaxy Froce and Oretachi Game Center Quarth for a total of $40
Just today they cancelled my Quarth order because it is sold out, but I'm still getting Galaxy Force for $20 shipped!

Oh yeah, Genesis Outrunners is up there for botch jobs, too.
STB did add some mid-bosses to the levels and the enemies are a bit more aggressive than in the arcade version. Most or all of the scenery has been dropped in the chase-view levels. Even the overhead boss battles suffer a little choppiness.

I think the smaller 4 Meg cart size didn't help STB too much on top of the lack of any hardware scaling. Space Harrier II sure looks rough, but it's definitely an improvement over STB.

Sega may have done what Nintendon't at the time- but Sega's arcade titles of that time definitely are what Genesisn't.

You could argue that, but the SMS port is even better than STB, so no excuses. It just blows.
