Disturbia

[Dolemite]

We went to see Disturbia last night (for free), and I still can't believe that it ended up being a good movie. It was marketed like any other modern teen horror flick but the commercials really don't reflect the end product much at all.

I think the thing it did right that so many other horror movies do wrong is that it spent a lot of time on establishing the personalities of the main characters and actually making them likable. 99% of horror movies don't bother to do this with their characters and what you get are faceless cardboard cut-outs that you don't give a shit about.

Fair amount of product placement- Xbox360 and Apple products (iPod, iTunes, Mac notebook) are actual plot points, in addition to the Sony PSP and Tony Hawk's American Wasteland (there were stickers for it everywhere, but I don't know why, it's an old game).

Anyway, very decent flick.

This got good reviews, has Shia LaBeouf who has great acting chops, and is kind of stylized after Rear Window. I expected it was actually good. I wouldn't mind seeing it.

This movie was number 1 for three weeks at the box office until Spiderman 3 was released.

So, I bought it on release, but just got around to watching it. Really good movie.

I liked it a lot too, though the ending felt rushed to me.

I liked it as well, and was surprised by how good it was. David Morse can be very creepy. My only complaint is his "true identity" was given away far too early. A bit more mystery surrounding him would have made the film even better, and even more Hitchcock-like.

This is actually a good movie? I almost "rented" it from the XBL marketplace the other day but decided against it because it looked like the suck. Now I may actually watch it.
