Thread: Soul Calibur 4

Playing a little bit more. Had bout 20 matches. i really like Yun Seong. easy to set up his kick juggles. Especially fun when its a black chick in fishnets and a nurses outfit.

Im usually on around 1am pst. I'd be happy to shank anyone of you.
Wed. Ill be on earlier in the day.See you in the ring.

  3. I'm up to Level 50 in ranked now and the competition is pretty consistently good at this point. You'll come across people in the 80's or whatever that are still getting by with a simple pattern that just fall apart if you can disassemble it (mostly Astaroth and Mitsurugi players), but so far it's been the best fighter experience I've had. In other fighter's maybe I could find one or two other people on the same level to play with, but eventually I'd "curve out" on them and it would stop being fun.

The one exception is when I worked at EA's QA department, where they had a SF3:TS cabinet in the break area...there were guys that were retarded good at that game and I just got in on that one too late. Point is though, kudos to Namco for smooth online play...because without it, I think the game would be relugated to the occasional messing around with after everything was unlocked.

I'm maining Amy and Yun Seong right now, which is odd because I'm not really drawn to either character design (so, yay CaS). I'm sure Amy is a better character than Yun, but Yun's much more fun with all the kick attack-throw follow-ups. Amy has quick enough attacks to work her way out of some frame traps, and a great way to close distance (8way A+B), things that Yun also lacks.

I'm gaining new respect against Maxi, Ivy, and Yoshimitsu. They weren't really represented before, but now I'm more wary of them than the legion of Mitsu's, Siegfrieds, and Astaroths. Ivy in particular can control a fight from the instant it starts, and has strong horizontal options at every range, making it really hard to get space by sidestepping. Maxi's moveset I'm just unfamiliar with, but I think you can GI or sidestep out of most his strings, if you know when. Yoshimitsu is just a really balanced character IMO, so good players always have options with him.

One trend I'm not enjoying though are people dropping when they're about to lose. One time, I had to turn my xbox off during a match (that I was winning , but gf was like time to go buster), and next time I logged on, it told me I was going to be penalized for leaving a match. I'm sure not sure what the penalty is, but I've heard that it's cumulative, so I'm not sure why people are dropping unless they just want to protect their win%. I don't really care that they drop, and I'm glad there's a penalty, but I am annoyed I don't get the win, the xp, and the cash (mostly this, I'm still trying to get the buy everything achievement)...it still awards the win in-match though.

  4. I've found I'm really good when I choose people who attack slower for some reason. Like Rock and Astaroth are always rape fiends when I play with them, especially against guys like Mitsigiru and Kilik.

  5. So I got all 1000 achievement points. This is the only retail game I've done that for (I think I got all 200 in Puzzle Quest or something). You don't any gamer pics or anything for it though, kind-of a letdown.

Also, I forget if this was the case with earlier SC's, but Guard Impact/Parries are high/mid and mid/low now. For anyone trying to make progress online, pretty much no one uses high attacks for anything except quick interrupts, so you can low GI for everything.

  6. I'm loving this game, but I can't find any Aussies to play with on live. Online play against Americans is hilariously laggy, I'm talking 1.5 seconds of input lag. It makes the game play more like a puzzle game, as you simply can't fight on reflex so you have to decide what you're going to do early on. I got my 10 wins achievement with Harry Potter and left it at that for now.

  7. A couple questions:
I know I asked this over voice chat, but I'm still getting accustomed to the way online matches work on 360... How do you send invites to friends and have them jump directly into your session?

Also, I left my SC4 disc in the drive after a long (~5 hr) session last weekend. The next morning when I turned on the system, the drive made a subtle buzzing noise when reading the disc. After a while, I shut it down, popped out the disc, and noticed that fine particles of whitish-gray dust had stuck to the bottom of the disc and also on the tray. A damp lens cloth luckily cleaned up the disc without scratching it. The weird thing, though, is that I've only had my 360 since late June (playing mostly this game on it), and I haven't had huge dust problems with my other systems.

In a game like SC which doesnt have a party system:
Make a session and set the private slots to however many friends you are inviting in. Press your xbox button on your controller - pick your friends list. You can press X to invite them to your game from that list, or you can select their tag and theres and option in there to invite to game. Also your friends can join you from their list if you have an open slot in your room.

Your 360 got lonely and took to snorting coke to deal with it. Now that you're playing Soul Calibur, it's glad you're around but still addicted to the stuff. You must have caught it in the act and caused it to choke.

It's far more common than you think.

  10. Thanks, guys.
