Thread: Soul Calibur 4

  1. I don't know these strange codes you speak.

    LOL.

I figured, but I don't really wanna be THAT cheesy.

  2. I play against Astaroth all the time online. His 6K is a great move, but it's not safe on block. Astaroth players become heavily reliant on it when pressured, and they all expect it to hit as a counterhit. I find I can bait it out pretty easily and punish on block...once there cautious about using it, they're game's usually off enough for a win.

I think Astaroth's real danger comes from his throw range and versatility (air throw, crouch throw, ground throw, hop throw, jumping throw). Compared to someone like Amy, you can grab a lot of people who think they are safe to block.

His other money move is 1A, and 1A(H), A or B. It's pretty fast, has lots of range, easy ring out, tons of Soul Gauge damage...pretty stupid overall. It's usually too risky to Guard Impact online, but people forget that hopping moves will go over his 1A. Hopping moves are actually pretty handy for other problem low attacks too, like Ivy's (coiled)A+B, A and Taki's 9KKK. It seems like you're immune to the low attack the instant you enter the command, and not necessarily when you're at the peak of your jump.

  3. I haven't played online yet, but I will.

    also: 1A?

edit: nevermind I looked it up. That's pretty lame that everyone does a low sweep.

This game really improves if you have some friends who get it. I actually got to play some competent Australians last night and it was a blast.

Is it just me or is Astaroth retardedly powerful?
Heh. I convinced my friend to buy this game. We made a bet, he says in two weeks he would be better than me and would whoop my ass. We both played the shit out of SC3 so he isn't new to the series. He buys it, gets online, and I proceed to rape him. It's like 15 wins to like 2 losses. He declares this game the worst ever and says I have no skills I am just mashing buttons. He is taking the game back to the store tomorrow because he says the fighting is "broken". I think he was just scared.

This same guy thinks Halo is the greatest game ever and he said only elitists like fighting games and they take no skill or strategy. No wonder I broke up with his dumb ass.

Edit: I like Halo, but I don't think it is the greatest game ever made.

More Edit: He says Mortal Kombat Armageddon is the deepest fighter ever. I'm serious. The only way he could beat me in that game was by using Noob who has an INFINITE combo.

I'm glad they didn't change much of Raphael or Sophita.

  6. Playing this game online on Live is fucking hilarious. Im not even kidding when i say 80% of the times i win - the people quit and send me a voice message usually saying "Youre a faggot fuck who only attacks low, and throws. You fag." Thats quite funny cause the fighting system can simply be summed up as high attack, low attack, throw. Sure theres more to it than that - but its not like its THAT complicated. What am i supossed to be doing? Another funny thing is - i will use all DIFFERENT characters on the board and whoop their ass. Its not like im using the same character - spamming the same moves.

Sure i will get the occasional nasty message in halo or whatever - but this is happening ALL the time. It happened in Street Fighter 3 as well. What makes it worse is i ONLY play player matches - so wins and losses arent even counted!! I wish i could forward these voice messages to people so they could hear it. Too damn funny!
NowPlaying: Battlefield series . DarkSouls . MGS collection . Cap+SNK fighters . AceCombat series . ArmoredCore series

  7. That's weird. I have almost 1000 online matches. I've probably had 6-8 drops (most of them in one night), and maybe 2 rude messages. I've definitely had more people say 'good game' than complain about losing, but people rarely talk. I definitely complain while playing, but it's pretty good-natured : )

Granted, I've only recently started playing Player Matches, my experience is pretty much all in Ranked.

  8. I added some of the people here so I can play SC4 with y'all.

Also: I got almost all the secret characters. Wow that was easy. I think I missed one Kamikuria or however you spell it.

It's just an extremely good move. I can't really blame people for gravitating towards the most effective ways to win, but unfortunately the slight latency in even good connections makes some things better than they should be.

More accurately, the solutions to effective patterns are too hard to time with the latency. Just-frame tech rolls in particular, but it's pretty tough to sidestep or GI on reaction too. DOA4 didn't really have this problem because the window for reversals was so large.

-and for the record, I'm not really fond of the keypad notation for fighting games, but it does make typing things out easier. My mind is just stuck on the qcf, hcf, f,f stuff, it's like I have to look at the keypad and translate every time I read something online.

I have yet to play a fighting game online ... so honestly I dunno.
