You play mostly RPGs, don't you? That makes it pretty hard for the controller to detract from the game.
Lot of whiners in here. I adjust to whatever controller I have to use. Some are better than others, sure. Not that big a deal really.
Also, Sony sucks and does rip everyone off, no question, but you could probably cook up a chart like that for every manufacturer.

I've never had any problems with any controller (this includes the 3DO's stock controller).
I've never had any problem driving any vehicle either, but that doesn't mean I'm buying a Saturn.
In my hardcore Persona 3 playing as of late, I've really started to wish the game was on the 360 just so that I could use that controller. I've always loved the Dual Shock, but the long-session comfort difference between that and the 360 pad is just night and day.
And, you know, I'd rather Sony just steal other ideas and come up with a nice controller that takes the best of other controllers, instead of feeling the need to re-invent the wheel and come up with something like... oh, I don't know... the batarang.

The only gripe I had with the DC controller was the analog stick. The psp has the same problem, but with a much worse analog stick. I have big hands so it felt pretty comfortable to me. The only controller I've had some trouble with were cheap PC controllers, the hideous N64 controller and the nes max(the d pad gave me blisters and was damn near un-usable cept the edge).
I'm a fan of the snes controller, it felt nice n snug and I loved how the shoulder buttons felt and were easy access.
Most of the pictures in that first image have been blatantly stolen from the much more interesting and informative controller family tree page.
The prototype PS3 controller is actually a rip-off of the PS1 Alps Gamepad
