I have the first generation of XFPS (got it cheaper than the original price)--the mouse/keyboard functionality isn't so precise (hence the newer version having sensitivity dials) but the PS2 > 360 conversion is great all the analogs and buttons work and you push SELECT + START to use the 360 button. One caveat: you need a wired 360 pad or joystick to connect to the XFPS so it can map the inputs to a PS2 controller. Also you can't use your headset with the the control slot the PS2 pad is using. It's great for XBLA/2d stuff and for the upcoming VF5 since I'm used to the pad.

How easily moddable is the hori stick? I got some spare joystick parts from my endeavor from trying to build and arcade stick and I know that hori is going to have japanese style buttons and stick of which I can't stand. You think it's just plug and go or would some soldering be required?

Soldering is definitely required. Since the joystick is very small, the buttons are soldered onto the PCB, so you'll need to be good with a soldering iron to replace the stock buttons with Sanwas or Seimitsus.

The joystick is going to be harder because the stock Hori stick is shorter than a Sanwa/Seimitsu joystick. It's possible to fit a Sanwa stick in the Hori case, but some have simply replaced the stock restrictor gate with a Sanwa square or octagonal gate.

I searched around a bunch just now for this pad. I found one review and an Out-Of-Stock marker on Play Asia. Is this available anywhere else?

You'll probably have to look on forums and ebay to find one. The one I have was packaged with KoF '94 Rebout, so that is another way to search.
