Thread: The Amazing Spider-Man

  1. On the DC side of things, the porn parodies are apparently more faithful than the actual movies.

You say that like they're all directed by the same people, written by the same people, and starring the same people. Just because I didn't like Captain America didn't mean I reversed my stance on liking Iron Man. There are a number of trashy comic book summer action movies I enjoy, sorry it hurts you so much that I don't love every single one.

There was a Batman one where they took the Ledger Joker and did a pretty decent job of Killing Joke, which was actually made more sadistic by it being porn because the Joker rapes Barbara in front of Gordan before shooting her.

It doesn't hurt me at all, get over yourself man.

I don't love every one of these movies but I like the majority of them. You however...

hated Thor so much that you feel you are owed something for that 2 hours of your life. I thought Thor was an okay flick and didn't really mind losing 2 hours of my life. I can only think of a handful of movies I've ever watched in my life that evoked the kind of hatred you seem to have for Thor. I just assume my standards are no where near where yours are for movies in general. Since I was a child I've wanted a large interconnected Marvel or DC movie universe, so this is playing right into my expectations.

Plus that last post was directed more to the people like Diff who only ever show up in these threads to say how much funnybook movies suck.

    I doubt that. I like Transformers 2.

Diff claims to hate on all comic book movies and yet seems to watch a lot of them, possibly so he can feel qualified to go into their respective threads and do his "this movie/game/whatever sucked" catchphrase? I dunno.

IIRC, he has cited Raise the Red Lantern (nothing to do with Green Lantern, noobs) as a favorite of his in the past, however, so I guess he deserves a pass on this behavior. Just this once.

    All credibility lost.

But that being said, we all have our own taste in crap that we gravitate towards. One man's Transformers 2 is another's Thor and so on.

This is the proper outlook on life.

That's fine. If you want to say Transformers 2 was a garbage movie with horrible pacing, writing, cringe-inducing attempts at jokes, and painful acting I will totally agree with you. Just because I enjoy a movie doesn't mean I'm blind to its faults.

That being said, the quality of the individual movies or who likes what wasn't what was being originally discussed, it was this:

    Yeah, that's patience.

The point was that you were stating Marvel was exercising more patience than other studios by releasing a ton of additional movies all the time, whereas SSJN's point was that the backstory offered in those additional movies is so minimal that it's not patience but just releasing a ton of linked products in a continuous stream to milk money. Whether or not audiences enjoyed the extraneous movie is beside the point and I'm not sure why you decided on that tangent.

Provided the writing is good enough it shouldn't matter if there's three lead-in movies or none. They can be fun, enjoyable films that are also milking the fanbase for extra money. It's not strictly an either/or situation.

  9. Need I remind you the whole reason Amazing Spiderman was made(being a reboot) is because Spiderman 3 was a clusterfuck of three villains(One shoehorned in without ANY backstory, another who the viewers felt was the REAL focus[sandman], and the last villain who had an ESTABLISHED backstory).

Marvel films is doing it right. Whether you like said movies is opinion at best.

ANECDOTAL: MY Mom (65) watched Avengers and loved it, but would have liked to have seen the other films, so she could understand the backstory of each character on screen. When she did she liked Avengers more and appreciated the nuances of each character; something Avengers did, but only people with previous knowledge could understand.

    Meanwhile DC is being DC.

Spider-Man 3 had a lot of problems besides the villains...

(the entire Mary Jane plotline was really horrible in all 3)

I suspect that nobody making them gave a shit anymore by the time 3 came around. They'd made their money.
