It was really bad.
The Venom church scene was really well handled if nothing else. Copy-paste that into a better Spider-Man flick.

Yeah, it had nothing to do with Sony keeping the rights or Tobey being 50 years old and not wanting to do another movie/being a silly choice for one. It was all about fixing Spiderman 3, which would have been a great movie had we had a prequel movie about Harry's love for pie. It's crazy, but you're right. Every problem with Spider-Man 3 can be attributed to not having enough backstory, and not how it amatuerly handled its present story.

That same figment of my imagination also states that Raimi was dropped because he wanted a $300 million budget, and those tightwads at Sony would only pony up $230 million. Sony was more than willing to stick with Raimi, but he wouldn't play ball with their demands.
