Thread: The Amazing Spider-Man

  1. I remember almost all of the plots being terrible and/or cliche throwaway, but they were usually packed with a lot of enjoyable character writing that carried it. I think you're right about the space bordello one.

And no, let's not talk about Dollhouse.

  2. (This is the best thread about Spider-Man.)

  3. The movie's pretty much a fixed point in space and time at this stage, I think it's safe to talk about tangentially related topics.

    It's a crossover!

    Yes.

Who cares about good movies or legitimate character depth
Well, those would be nice, too. But whatever, the movies are fun nonetheless, IMO.

Didn't he just write the script? Directors have all the power.

I personally DO think that the solo movies really helped Avengers become the success that is was. Would it have made major bank nonetheless? Sure. But I think the solo lead-ins just got the hype train rolling that much more, and I enjoyed most of them. Fuck, growing up with all the really shitty comic adaptations, I'm still blown away that they're (for the most part) taken so seriously now in terms of budget/acting/overall quality, debates on their depth/etc aside.

DC should have REALLY courted Bale for this, it was their only hope for the sort of media attention they were looking for.
I agree, but using Nolan''s "realistic" take on Bats might not have meshed with the over-the-top style of Man of Steel. I can't really see Bat-Bale pulling something out of his ass to counter Supes after watching the guy pull a mini-9/11 on Metropolis in the first movie.

    Sure it does.

The point was that the Avengers was just fine as a standalone movie and the other movies didn't really add anything.
In your opinion, of course. Other people disagree; this is the internet, after all. Opinions, assholes, etc.

He did, and it did get rewritten to some extent. Since it got changed Whedon claims the script was ruined, but his version had some additional wacky shit like Wal-Mart buying out Wutani so I don't entirely believe him. Jeunet is also consistently a pretty excellent director, and the look, feel, and pacing of the movie are quite good. That's one where I'm putting the failing on the script.

  9. edit: ^^^^ That ^^^

That's a nice idea, but in the studio system the writer has a lot of control over the blueprint.

You would want to tone superman into Nolan's world as much as possible, not the other way around. I mean now it is just another comic book movie (which probably still means bank though, to be fair).
