Thread: Tabula Rasa

  1. I picked the game back up a couple weeks ago when the mother of all patches hit and made the game really fun to play again. If you want to get the collector's edition, you better get at it. EB/Gamestop has taken it off their site, which means it actually might be a limited edition for once.

Breaking news from the Austin Game Developers Conference:

Tonight at a special pre-launch event, Richard Garriott announced that the upcoming MMORPG Tabula Rasa will launch on October 19th.
That's fucked up if true. This game is not ready.

Is the NDA still in force? Or can some of you actually talk about whether this game is any good?

  4. Since there's a 3 part in-depth video up on Gametrailers, I can't imagine the NDA really counts for much anymore. The game is very fun, imo. The shooting element helps break up the monotony of mmo's, and the controls are really tight. If you have any questions, that's probably the easier way to talk about it. I've got the LE on preorder, if that tells you anything.

My main concern about the game being released in 5 weeks is that there's still a number of bugs that need to be worked out.

Oh and also: I don't think Yoshi likes the game. He's gone back to his elves, dwarves, gnomes, fairies and similar fantasy lameness.

Are the quests and storylines genuinely interesting? Is playing solo possible? Does it feel like a grind?

  6. the nda is down. the quests are actually pretty interesting, including some quests where you can actually make choices and have different endings. soloing is very possible at the low levels, not sure about higher since i got whiped after hitting level 9, specialist tree characters(support /debuffers) have it harder than soldiers but can get by. as for a grind, depends, all mmo's are grinds, they just dont feel like it if you enjoy the setting, and this setting is definitly something good, though star wars and stargate similarities will peek out at you every once in a while. i see yoshi liking this game very much

  7. To me it doesn't feel like a grind because I'm running around shooting shit. So even if I'm fighting the same enemies a hundred times, I can mix it up with the weapons and skills.

I would say soloing at low levels is possible depending on the server population. If it's a low population, it's easy to get ganked by a bunch of Bane. Solo is definitely possible, and the devs have worked on the game with that in mind. Obviously on some missions if you're doing them solo you might need to grind a bit and be a little above what the recommendation is, but you can still do them solo. It does get really fun, though, when you're with a group of people and mowing Bane down. Shots going off everywhere and all kinds of random skills lighting up the screen. It feels a lot like PSO when you're in a group, imo.

  8. The character wipe sucks, but it does give me a chance to mess around with the character creator more...

  9. That looks kinda cool.

  10. He looks like a combination of Gordon from Half Life 2 (I know that's what you were going for) and Dash Rendar.
